Just before the old NY j site went offline, I saved the ln2 page and info. If somebody wants to host the info somewhere I've got a few images and html file with the old layout. Until then, a copy paste will have to do:

2200 L4 (LN2) OHV (Over Head Valve) Engine
98+ (LN2) L4
2.2L L4 (LN2) Features & Benefits
1998 Year Changes
Cylinder head - New head with cast combustion chambers and new intake and exhaust ports set the stage for improved emissions and drivability.
Low friction valve-train - Use of roller rocker arms on the 2200 engine greatly reduces friction in the valve-train.
Composite intake manifold - The new composite manifold coupled with the new cylinder head provide significant improvements in low and mid-range engine performance, along with reductions in noise and mass.
Camshaft revisions - Camshaft profile changes improve mid-range torque when combined with the new head and intake manifold.
Piston revisions - Changes in the bowl of the piston have been made to pair with the new cylinder head. Revisions also aid in noise reduction.
Engine cooling - A new cooling flow arrangement enhances cooling throughout the engine.
Evaporative emissions - The stainless steel construction of the fuel rail allows for reduced evaporative emissions.
Further fuel rail enhancements - The addition of a fuel rail accumulator on the J-Car application gives a significant noise reduction advantage.
Accessory drive - A new tensioner mounted off the front cover yields improved QRD to the accessory drive system.
2001 Model Year Changes
CAMSHAFT - The LN2's assembled steel camshaft is similar to the 3.1-liter LG8 and 3.4-liter LA1 V6s. The shaft is stamped from rolled steel and the lobes are pressed on. The process requires far less machining than conventional production, and the result is a sturdy, economical cam. For model year 2001, the cam is assembled with durable powder metal journals. The new journals allow common assembly for the LN2, LG8 and LA1, and reduce cost.
BETTER CATS - The catalytic converter has the same volume as that used for model year 2000. Yet improved technology allows the converter to work as efficiently with less precious metals in the substrate, or the core of the converter brick where the catalytic reaction begins. The new converter reduces cost considerably and still allows the LN2 to meet National Low Emission Vehicle (NLEV) standards.
STARTER - The new starter motor, supplied by Delco Remy America, draws less amperage than the starter used for model year 2000, yet delivers the same cold cranking power. That means the same starting power with less drain on the battery. The starter is also lighter and costs less to manufacture.
SLEEVELESS COOLANT SENSOR - The coolant temperature sensor uses a plastic insulator to protect electrical leads inside the brass housing, rather than a rubber sleeve. The new sensor reduces the possibility of assembly rejection or shorting in operation.
In preparation for flexible-fuel capability in the L43, the 2200 cylinder head was fitted with more durable, pressed-in powder metal valve seats for model year 2000. Maximum fuel pressure was increased from 300 kPa to 400 kPa, improving hot starting and performance under high operating temperatures. The throttle body was fitted with gold-plated terminals for its electrical connections to further improve reliability and durability.
The 2.2 OHV line four was launched in the 1982 Chevrolet Cavalier. With nearly two decades of continuous improvement, it remains Powertrain's highest-volume four-cylinder engine in North America. The LN2 underwent significant revisions in 1998 and changed to the 2200. The cylinder heads were revised to improve combustion efficiency and fuel economy. Intake and exhaust manifolds were redesigned to improve airflow, while cam profiles where revised to improve mid-range torque.
