So im new with the ecotec 2.2L liter.. yesterday my car wounld start, onlt cranks.. (keep in mind i drove it all day earler) I have fuel pressure, and the starter is doing its job. im not to sure hoe to check the icm but i dont seat what other problem it could be. anyone had this problem? Thanks guys!
Sorry about the spelling, i just saw i missed spelled like 4 words.. long day..
Pull the coils packs, stick an
INSULATED screwdriver in where the spark plug goes and hold it 1/4 inch away from a grounded piece of steel. Maybe the engine its self will work. And see if you get a spark to jump. Spark = good ICM, no spark = bad ICM
what easle could it be if its not the icm? I will try that!
okay so i replaced it, wouldnt start at first, tried push starting it. didnt work. then tried craking it again it started back firing and started! YAY! so not it runs but has random mis fires???
I've been through 3 ICM's in the past 5 months. Same exact situation you're having Scotty runs fine park it and takes 4 to 5 minutes to start next day runs like S***, smokes like cheech & chong. Hooked a scanner up and get a P0300 code random misfire. Did you put a new one on? Usually resolves it for me. Have you pulled codes, it might be something else.
Pull the spark plugs and see if any of them are wet. All that cranking and no fire may have soaked the plugs. A wet plug wont fire.
If you hold the gas pedal all the way down it will shut off the fuel injectors, If you dont it will just keep on spraying in, fuel soaking the spark plugs. I have had cars towed in that had up to 2 more quarts of oil in the engine than needed. Not actually oil but gas. Usually caused by some one trying to fix it by cranking it and cranking it and cranking it.

Ya, i put i new one on from napa. i drove it for about an hour last night and seems to drive better now. i am going to get new plugs today, i havent checked them yet but im sure i damaged them in some way by trying to start it.
mine does that misfires/backfires whatever you want to call it occasionally but that is only when the engine is cold like after the car has been sitting overnight, i too tried that method the cranking cranking cranking eventually i lost my starter and wound up spending mega bucks to get that fixed but lucky me now i have a lifetime warranty on the starter so if it ever goes again it will be replaced for free.
a guy in town had that happen it was running on like 2 cylinders. he just brought it to gm. was under warranty still
that would be interesting to see, a car running on 2 cylinders would kinda be like going around with only half your heart beating.
it barely did, wouldn't even go 30km/h
ya that was me, i had to drive the car to the dealership the car would only had enough power to hold about 70km/h.
it also sounded like a diesel, i wish i could of got a sound clip of it.
anyways, GM has a service bulletin about the problem, luckly mine was replaced under warranty. They put in a new one and i haven't had a problem with it for a year now.
