Ok I have a 972.2 with an auto and am swapping to a 04 eco auto. My question is on the hvac control unit, the 04 is cable driven and the 97 is vacuum. How do I make this work? do I need to swap the whole black parts behind the dash or remove the vacuum actuator for the cables? Any help is appreciated.

If you swap the whole heater box behind the dash... then you need to swap the controls too. If you leave the 97 heater box... leave the 97 heater controls, and hook up a vacuum line from the Eco engine to it. Otherwise the doors won't move... they're vacuum actuated.
Are you swapping the dash to accommodate the 04 cluster? Cuz the 04 won't fit right in the 97 dash.... and the 97 HVAC panel won't fit right in the 04 dash, unless you cut the alignment pins off.

I just swapped out my whole HVAC system from my donor car, it took about 15 minutes and is quite easy if both cars are stripped down.
