383 stroker in sunfire
Tuesday, October 02, 2007 1:02 AM
I heard of people doing this just wondering if anyone could tell me anything about it. How it is im sure its difficult but ya. I have a buddy who bought a s10 with out a title for 200 dollars and all he wanted was the motor and trany. He told me i could have the frame. And my brother has a teacher at school who said he could have a 350 and my bro knows how to build engines and that. So i was thinking of doing this and putting the body of my sunfire on it. What do you all think let me know.

Yes, you can put a cavalier body on an s10 chassis. I've sen pics of it done before. It looks very odd without it lowered, though.

those two dont look anything like the cav on the tacoma frame. the truck body was jacked up and it sat really high. looked like good old redneck engineering to me. i wish i still had a picture of it, but my HD crashed...

Yeah, those aren't the pics I was talking about either...they still look funny, but no where near as odd as the one I'm thinking of.

No offense, but if you need instructions for a project like that, you shouldn't be attempting it.

The concept is fairly straight forward...Execution, however, might not be. You simply have to get the body removed from the J frame (cut where it might be welded and unbolt where it might be bolted). Take the body and line it up on the s-10 frame. Bolt/weld into place. Of course though, there would most likely be more cutting and welding to just the body itself to ensure that it would sit flush on the frame.

...but I pretty much would have to agree with Quicklilcav. No offense, but if what I wrote wasn't obvious enough, then I highly doubt your abilities.

You didn't ask for tips, you asked for instructions. No need to tell me to 'chill out bro' lol. I'm plenty chilled out. Just pointing out that if you need instructions for a project like this, you shouldn't be attempting it. I didn't say that you couldn't do it, because I don't know your abilities. However, if you have the skills, you won't need any instructions. If you do it, all the more power to you, and post up your progress. If I were to bet, it would be that you won't do it. Prove me wrong. It woudn't bother me a bit. I enjoy seeing projects that people are doing, especially if they are somewhat of a challenge.

Yeah... I agree with everyone and your only limiting factor is your abilites and your imagination. If you go through with it please keep us up to date, I would love to see it come together.

Personally if it was I, I would find a Turbo 400 automatic transmission to put behind the 383 and stick that assembly in the S-10 pickup as is. Advanced Adapters and a few other companies make bolt/weld in kits WITH INSTRUCTIONS for such a project.
