Hey everyone, I have a 98 red Z24, with all black interior, and a 5 speed. My car is starting to use coolant (oil is clean), and it uses clutch fluid. Speaking of clutch, mine could used to be replaced but it still works. The big problem is my transmission. Recently while driving up a huge hill it decided that it no longer wanted to go into any gear. Once i got nice and slowed down (10mph) it decided to work again, except now it doesn't feel right. It goes into all the gears and does not come out but the shifter used to know where it was going, now its just a stick in the middle of two seats. It no longer finds Neutral by its self. My car also has a fair amount of rust on the right side door/ just behind door. I owe 400 bucks on it, and it has 150k miles. Still has orginal water pump and is still a pretty nice car. Is it worth fixing everything..just to have a car with 150k on the odometer, or should I get a beater for the winter and buy a fbody in the spring. What would you do? Thanks

If it's in decent shape other than the problems you mentioned... I'd fix 'er up and keep up with the regular maintenance to keep it in good condition. If the body's all ratbagged, seats torn, plastic busted, etc.... dump it... it'll be a big 'ol money pit and waste of time and effort.

O ya, I shaved the badges too. Realistically what are these cars worth? I know resale value is terrible.

well it sure looks good, if you dont want a new car loan and payments every month, it is well worth fixing it.
if you have skills it aint too hard to do the clutch.
alot of cars that go to the crusher are really only in need of a little work and could go on for many more years.

I'd fix 'er up. but that's just me.
and you have the Isuzu tranny. If it's got major problems, replace with Getrag



LD9 F23 FTW!!

I just took it to the local tranny shop and they say its deff internal problems. Big problem is, that they can not find a use 5 speed to replace mine with. Just great. Guess ill take it to the other place in town and see what they can do. Any ideas? Any one wanna sell me their 5 speed near Grand Rapids MI ?Thanks for everyone's input, I appreciate it

if i were closer to you i'd buy it from you if you wanted to sell it, the body on my car(98 z24) is pretty rough but it still runs and drives great.

I would hold onto it for sure....Fix up any problems with it and get it running right....You'll be happy you did.....

Im starting to wonder if its the cables on the shifter? If not, im fairly sure its the syncro's. Bla how discouraging. Anymore advice?

Just found out I actually owe like 2000 on it. My other loan was 400 This isnt good.
