Does the radiator fan relay interupt the power or ground wire for the fan? I wan't to wire a switch under my dash to force the fan on, but I wan't it to work normally with the switch off. I saw someone at a local meet that did it once, but I didn't think to ask him how he wired it. Thanx people.
oh ya, I have a 97 2.4
The relay has a switched ground. I'd have to look up the wire color, can't remember off hand. It might have been dark green. I had one on my old Z24... many years ago. I used a diode to isolate the ground from the PCM... otherwise it throws a code if you have the switch on with the car on.

So If I jump the ground for the fan it will come on, thats all I should need to know, thanks.
Time to buy some aligator clips and make a jumper wire to test it out.
ya its a small green wire about 18 gauge id say and i believe its the 86 pole run a wire from that to a switch and a wire from the switch to a ground and ur set!
yea its very easy...just look under your fan relay and youll see 3 large wires and one small green one..thats the one you wire to the switch then ground..and when the switch is off it works normally
ive always hated that schematic..it makes NO sense to me at all whatsoever ..seems like it makes it more complicated that it has to be..when its SIMPLE ....splice into the small wire under the relay and run it to switch/ground..DONE
One wire, vs adding a whole new relay, wiring and switch. Which one is easier? Hmm...
The JBO library "how to's" are completely out of date. The DRL disable doesn't even work right on the 00-05 cars, yet it's still there. Even still, we've found a much simpler and more effective method to disable them.
I can't wait til the "How To's" are editable like the FAQ is

Sweet, the green wire going to the realy is the ground for the fan. I'm suprised someone just happened to know that.
Not to keep asking questions, but I'm kinda wondering how high I should go amp wise for the switch, in case the fan motor doesn't have the amperage on it.
Ya, the FAQ is really out of date, wich is why the DRL's still work on my 97 fire. I'm planning on re-wiring my trunk lights (liscense plate light, and the word "Pontiac") so they only light up with the parking lights on too, I know how to do it, but that isn't even in there.
Ok, yup. It is the dark green wire, from pin 86. Here's the schematic (sorry about the size):

If you're only going to use it when the car is off... then you don't need to bother with a diode to isolate it. But if you are going to be running it with the car on, I would use a diode as well so the PCM doesn't "see" the fan on when it's not supposed to be, throwing a code.
It's a low power signal to switch the existing fan relay... so a small 18 gauge wire is fine, with a 1 amp fuse on it. Any bigger is overkill.

Thanx again.... It will mainley only be used when I'm stuck in traffic or cruizing, which is when the temp tends to get a little on the high side. Or when the car is sitting while running and I don't want to turn on the A/C to make the fan come on.
is it the same for a 2.2? I'm guessing it is.
thats a much better schematic
in the big box of relays under the hood..labeled "FAN RELAY"
