I have done some quick searchs that havent ended fruitfully, so maybe someone could help.
i have my gf's 95 sunfire and it has had a new head, new alternator and 3 new waterpumps in the past month so i havent had time to tend to my cars. every water pump i have put on has been a new, not rebuild or reman, from various autopart stores (all though the have been the exact same pump just in different boxes) they all last roughly 5-10 minutes of idling then they start sqealing, my dad is a mechanic and he watched me put the last one in and declared that i have been doing nothing wrong. my question is can anyone recomend a quailty waterpump for the 95 2.2. i am getting a new factory one from pontiac next unless someone can recomend a cheaper option (im just assuming it is expesive because when i did the head i needed a head positioning dowl and it cost 5 bucks and it was a 15cent peice of copper)
I'd get one with a warranty. the delco ones aren't really any different than the ones you get from the local autoparts store.
Honestly though, there's something else wrong w/ the car than the pump.
My GTP does somewhat the same. It happened after changing my tensioner assy. Something isnt lining up right. The noise that you're hearing is either A) the belt being worn out, or B) the belt rubbing on the sides.
I would suggest replacing the belt with a Gatorback, expensive.... but the squeeling will probably stop. Also, the problem could be the AC compressor, and not the water pump.
I have never had that problem when I installed one of those pumps. The reason that they get changed is they leak after the bearings wear out. Like shooff said sounds like you might want to look at the a/c pulley, very common. A glazed over belt can cause squeeling but normally squeels at first then goes away after it causes heat on the pulleys and belt. Make sure your tensioner moves freely, they tend to freeze up because the pivot bolt is steel and the housing is aluminum(dissimilar metal rusting). I would bet on the A/C pulley. Check to make sure the pulley spins freely and doesnt have any catches when you feel the pulley while turning it by hand slowly. If nothing else, if your belt is cracking on the v side and deeds replaced any way, start it and let it squeel, watch the a/c pulley to see if its spinning. Let it squeel and see which pulley starts to smoke. It will eventually blow the belt off so watch where you put yout face at.

unless that pulley happens to be plastic by some chance. Then it'll just eat the pulley clear off..... heh, been there before.
thanks but i know for a fact it is the waterpump because when i bought each pump they felt really tight, tighter than i thought it would be, and when i put it on it runs good for a few minutes(i litteraly mean minutes, not even 10minutes) then it starts sqealing, belt removed and im spinning the pulley by hand and the pump has a distinctive squeak to it, and i already tried bypassing the ac pump with the proper belt.
I have never seen plastic pulleys on a 95, thats why i said let it smoke.
Maybe change the belt and tensioner then, if the pump still spins then it shouldnt cause it to squeel.
Our new mechanic showed me a neat trick today to find out if you need a belt or not. He applied a finger full of silicone to both sides of the belt and started the car. It made the squeeling stop. That how you find out if the belt is causing the squeel or the pump bearings are causing it.

i know it is the pump bearings, thats why i was asking if anyone could reccomend a quaility replacement but i bought a new one from pontiac and it works great
Where did you get the junk pumps from? I dont want to go through that.

everywhere ha ha ha. no seriously, napa, autozone, carquest, and advance auto all sell the same pump. rougly 24 (advance auto) to 38 (napa) bucks, all in diff boxes but the actual unit is painted a silver/gray color and there is a paper gasket in a plastic bag along with some not so helpful instructions that served as a good applicator for gasket sealant so i didnt get it on my fingers.
