... then why bother posting at all? You could have saved yourself a bunch of typing, if you'd just typed "No." instead

Oh please don't spread mis-information. You obviously have no idea what's involved.

The 00-05 cars use a BCM to drive the cluster. The 95-99 do not.

You can't simply install a BCM though... you'd need to gut the engine bay to the gas tank, to install a PCM that speaks Class 2 to the BCM. It's all related to the perceived problems with removing a 00-05 stock radio.

Well said Lenko, this is the second thread that This TR has told this inaccurate info to. That would cause such a snow ball effect if the swap was tried. Leavin the owner with a piece of junk. You know I havent seen KustomJ around after A couple of arguements that I saw Him in. And now his Profile Is missing. Now we got This TR guy. If you look in his profile i think it says kustom j under his name. How strange. If this is whats going on and he is misguiding people on here Thats just wrong.

no it won't work the 05's have a different set up than the 95-99's matter of fact if i am not mistaken, any of those years the last 2 like say 03-05 wouldn't work because of the different set up .

00-05 Cavs and Sunfires are all interchangable...

AKA, an 04 Sunfire cluster will fit and work in an 00 Cavalier, a 00 Cavalier cluster will work in an 05 Sunfire, etc.

95-99 Cavalier clusters are interchangable (after theftlock reprogram)
You cannot use a sunfire cluster in a cavalier, or a cavalier cluster in a sunfire...

95-99 Sunfire clusters are interchangable (after theftlock reprogram)
Above holds true for these clusters as well, obviously.

thanks shifted to clear this all up so I think some people should apologize to me so saying I was wrong which now we know it would work if you change the dash and the dash panel and wiring with the bcm

okay so if a 96 cavalier cluster would work in a 2005 cavalier how about a J with a mechanical odometer will that work in anything also.

you have to take your 96 wiring and bcm out and swap it in the 05 and that means u got to rewire the whole car so it would work with the 96

Where do you get that? Read what I wrote again, a 96 cluster WILL NOT WORK IN A 2005. All clusters from 2000+ (1999 actually) are digital, so if a 99- cluster won't work in a 2000+, the only obvious conclusion is that a mechanical odometer cluster WILL NOT WORK in a 2005.

96 does not have a BCM, you'd have to rewire the ENTIRE car, from the interior harness, injectors, PCM, ect to put a 2k+ cluster into a 99-.

oh well i just figured since the digitals were all so interchangable pretty much anything known to man would work.

actually if i remember right 96 was the last year for the mechanical odometers on the J''s, 97 was when they all went digital i am probably wrong about that though.

98 was the last year of the mechanical odometers.. Some 98s had mechanical, some 98's had digital. All sunfires from 97 and up had digital.

Ha, you don't only need to rewire the whole car... you need to replace the whole dash assembly, the ABS module & master cylinder, re-bend the brake lines... oh yeah, get the 00 airbags and module... and change the plugs or the whole clock spring too...

HARDLY a simple "re-wire". It's more like "strip the car to the sheet metal and start over".

If you have a 95-99 car.... you can't easily have a 00-05 dash. And vice-versa.
