Alright, I am new here, I need some help and it sounds like you guys can help. I have a 95 cavalier with 196000 miles on it. (2.3 HO). I had oil pressure problems and began to rebuild the lower end. When putting it back together I noticed that the balance shafts were not marked to the crank. Do I need to buy the dealer tool to realign everything? I looked at engines online ebay, but they are impossible to find. Can I swap in a 2.4 without problems?
you don't have an Ho. The Ho died in 94.
Any rebuild book will tell you what to do.

2.3 Ho
yea..hes right...you have an LO..
but the good news is if your car has a manual transmission you can swap in a REAL HO 2.3 without any issues
that would be my first choice over the 2.4
I have both the chiltons and the GM dealer section. The Chiltons doesnt even recognize the alighnment and the dealer references a "balance Shaft alignment tool". What year of cars can I get a HO from that will bolt in, it is a manual. I have to admit I am attached to the current 2.3, that is apart.
once you drive a 2.3 Ho, you'll feel stupid fo saying that you liked the 95 engine
