I've got a strange 2002 cavalier in my hands. It's a Canadian 2002 Z24, and its got an ecotec engine (something I thought was only in 2003 models). It's got a wierd lip spoiler, and a full bodykit with fog lights... its also got a power sunroof and a cd player. Can anyone tell me more about this car? Whats the difference between the normal cavalier and the Z24 for the 2002 model year? It seems I have the only 2002 cavalier with an ecotec, every other one i've seen is the 2.4... what about the sound system? I've got a cd player... sorry for all the questions, im confused...
Here's a picture of the car, if that helps.
yep, just an LS sport.. my cousin has the same thing but it came with the newer ls sport rims

^^what they said, it's not very weird
Ok, so thats settled. What comes with the Canadian LS sport package over the base cavalier? I know its got an Ecotec and ABS... what about traction control? Upgraded Audio?
Oh, and what do the newer LS Sport rims look like?
Thanks for the quick replies guys.
2002 was the year of the transition... there were about 720 Z24s that still had the LD9 (produced and sold in the first 2 or 3mnths of 02) and the rest were all Ecotecs. So you have a late year 02.

I'm curious where you got the number 720 from?
You have an LS sport, which means its an LS with the Z24 fround effects, front bumper w/ fogs, and the z24 spoiler, and the badges, most LS Sports didnt have the Z24 badges though, but maybe because its canadian? and there is no difference in sound, no premium sound, sorry, and no traction control

I heard it from a dealer in December 01, when i almost bought an 02 with the LD9 in it.
you have a real Z24 there my friend... rite up until they stopped making cavys u could get a Z24 here... only u have a late model year thats why u have the ecotec... and since its a 02 u got the nice factory lips... although the front one looks like it could use a lil tlc to fit perfect...

You got the canadian version of the LS Sport.
officially over the base you get.
Z24 ground effects, a rare option in Canada, not many people took it.
fog lamps, color keyed door handles and mirrors.
upgraded seats, a leather wrapped shift knob.
you have a sunroof so you also have a premium amplified audio system (sold as a package) amp is in the trunk behind the carpet on the drivers side, its mounted to a weird bracket.
A/C standard on the Z24, not on other models.
if its an auto, you get the enhanced traction control and ABS.
rear spoiler and 16" alum wheels.
you have the sun and sound package (roof and stereo) so the car will have power everything including key less entry. required option to get the sun roof.
it might have a 22mm sway bar buy im not 100% on that one.
thats pretty much it. the short version is you have a fully loaded 2002 cavalier Z24.
its a really nice one too.

Thank you VERY much man. Thats exactly the information I was looking for. I cant thank you enough. Im even happier with my Cavalier knowing it has all those options you mentioned (TC on an economy car? Whaaaat?). The premium sound is an awesome bonus, too. If anyone could confirm the sway bar (!!!!!!) that would be incredible. I pick up the car next week so I can't exactly check for it myself.
Thanks again, everyone.
The only way to be 100% sure the sway bar is there is to look or get the code off of the Jack cover I believe... If it says FE0 then you don't have one but it will probably say FE2 which means you do have one (front only stock)....

Well I picked her up and its definitely got a strut bar. This thing rides REALLY firm. I feel every bump in the road, and I love it. It corners better than my brothers RSX and that's saying alot. Its got alot of power in it, but the gearing is sort of odd. Can anyone explain the rear suspension set up? It seems to be some kind of swing... I cant exactly figure that one out.
the rear end...be careful on wet pavement. the 1st major accident i was in, in my 02 cavi ls sport was due to the ass end slipping out as i was going around a moderate corner on the freeway. wet pavement as well.
enjoy the new car. how much did you pay for it? i was looking around when my old car was hit, again, 2 months ago and dealers were advertising them at almost $9000(usd).
nuts. i think thats why it wasnt totalled out.

oh yea you will also get the Canadian gauge cluster, which has different icons and warning lamps then the US model.
enjoy your new car man.
the one i looked at was a 5 speed
traction control was only with the 4 spd auto trans , no 5spds or 3spd autos had it
this is only as far as the J-bodies go
and since no one mentioned it , once you get it , check out the front lip and see if its missing the clips , its starting to hang down , and they get riped off very easy
so get it fixed quickly

wierd i have never seen a manual with TC how does it work? mine works by downshifting and stuff but with a manual it cant down shift so what does it do?
On the Camaros & Firebirds I beleive for the manuals it pulse the brakes on the slipping corner and retards the timing until traction is regained... I'm not sure about the J's though...
Also I assume you mean it upshifts to a higher gear not downshifts to a lower gear as that would be couter productive.

On my GTO (similiar to F-Bodies), T/C makes it so I can't push the gas pedal down any farther lol. It feels goofy when it does it.

i think i misunderstood....
I read "TC" as Twin Cam, now that I read again... i ass-u-me you ment Traction Control.
If thats the case, forget my last post.
