Fiance just purchased a 1997 Cavalier Coupe (teal), auto, ac, read defroster, 15inch wheels, 55k miles for $1,800. The car has a couple large dents in it, but it is mechanically perfect. I thought it was a pretty good deal, just wondering what other people think. The rear quarter panel right after passenger door has a large dent, the front driver side hood/bumper is dented/scratched, and the driver fender has a nasty curl in it near the driver's door.
I'll have pics in a little while if anyone wants to see the damage. Good deal?
i say deal if body work is no problem
i wouldnt say deal.. but average
I'd go for it.

not knowing the extent of the body damage...i put in that the body probably had more than 3000 dollars in damage. everything else i checked as ok. i left it with absolutely no options...the price came out to a little over 1800 bucks. so i'd say its a good deal as long as she doesn't care about the body damage. 55k miles is awesome...car still has another 100k on it easy as long as it was taken care of for its first 55k.
go to kbb.com and click private party value if you want to change the options and stuff. after that, hit the pick a part and find parts. hoods/bumpers/fenders/trunks all run between 35-60 bucks from the junk yards...
GO PATS!!!
Damnit, I keep forgetting to upload the pictures.
The body damage doesn't look too drastic, but then again, this is coming from a guy that totaled his cavalier after he thought the damage wasn't TOO bad.
Hopefully I'll remember to upload the pics tonight when I go home. The nastiest one is the one in the rear quarter panel behind the passenger door. Here's a list of what the car has (based on KBB). It's a 1997 Cavalier Coupe RS

sounds pretty much like a base cavy. depending on the body damage, she either got a fair deal or a good deal. hell, take the fenders off and bang the dents out.
GO PATS!!!
looks like we need to take a trip to the junk yard.
not in TOO bad of shape. does it run better than the piece of crap she had before?
GO PATS!!!
deal IMO... that body damage isnt even bad... low miles, if it works perfectly fine then yea
oh yea ron, before you ask....
NO, YOU CAN'T HAVE YOUR CAR PARTS BACK!!! unless you want to pay me double.
GO PATS!!!
It runs a lot better than the Ford. The blower resistor needs to be changed on it though, and a couple other little things.
Sell the parts back to me at double the price? Your nucking futs. I'll just steal them off your car instead
hey fool...if you're home, come over and let me see if i can knock them dents out...i've gotten good at that.
GO PATS!!!
new hood, new fender... and the dent in the quarter can probably be pushed out if your good at it... other than that looks pretty sound... I'd say a fair deal at least

Looks like a half decent deal to me.
Good deal id say. You may get lucky and find parts that are your cars colour, then its a really good deal
Good deal if you dont mind the damage. If you want to replace the panels then you could get in too deep. If you get the quarter fixed dont do anything to it, body men hate a bad pop out, we actually charge more if you do more harm than good. Your lookin at about 200 for a hood, 87 or so for a fender. both aftermarket new. The driver fender is from the door being swung open in case you didnt know.

Thanks for the help guys. Right now repairs have been halted indefinately until we are married and all settled living together. The thing that's not really pushing me right now to get the repairs done is the fact that these aren't prohibiting the drive at all. I also noticed when installing her CD player that the airbags never deployed (or they were replaced) when the person hit whatever the hell it was they hit. It doesn't look like the windshield has been tampered with either.
Bags are all about the speed of the vehicle and angle of impact. I've seen cars that were destroyed and the bags were good. And others that just needed a front bumper cover replaced with bags blown. Look to see if the windshield says ppg (factory glass) in the lower corner of the pass side. bags blow = windshield junk. Also if you want to find out if its been wrecked. look on the pinch weld flange of the rocker panels, you know the 1 inch tab that hangs down. Look for clamp marks usually right behind where the fender bolts are. This will tell you if It was wrecked, the clamp marks are left by hold down clamps on a frame pulling machine.
