Hello everyone, i have a 1996 cavy, 2.2 3 speed.i am going to get a new tranny for it tomorrow from the junk yard. now i guess there are 2 versions, 3t40 and 3t40E? also is it the md9? many junkyards around me have plenty in stock, but i want to be sure before i go out and get one. the junkyards refer to it as a md9. any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

i wouldnt trust going to a junk yard to buy a tranny unless you plan to modify it. Can never trust them they dont garuntee the parts... Just rebuild if you can
any junk yard ive been to guarentee's parts for lik 90 days i bought my tranny from one been working good for over a year
Um I don't think it's the E because that stands for electronic, IIRC... I know mine is the 3t40 because it's a straight-up mechanical three-speed...?

You are correct. I followed up with a friend and the E does stand for Electronic. My mistake.

which one is better, 3t40 or 3t4oE ???? cause I have one in my car now and I was looking for the 4spd for my cause I feel the tranny is holding my car , could that be the differents casue 3t40 or 3t40e tranny ???
well i got a transmission from the junkyard, its the same one that i pulled out of my cav. im off to get some fluid and a filter and gasket. i hope that it all works out... btw it sucks a fat one doing a tranny in the dirt without a lift or anything. wish me luck!
