So, How common was it for a LS 4 door cavalier, to come with a LD9 in 1997???
because i just found out the the motor that was in the one i bought has a LD9.
*dealer told me it had a 2200
...
ive never heard of the ld9 in a 4door except 2002+. before, they were just in z24's and z24's were only 2 doors.
well, my LS 4 door has one
...
Pretty rare. I've only seen 3 4doors that came with 2.4's.
you sure someone didn't swap it in?

umm, you must be mistaking the ld9 with the ecotec. they stopped making the ld9 in 2002.

SO EVERYTHING!
Yeah that was the first thing I asked the person that had the 1st 4 door 2.4 I saw. Eric Scott's his name. Car was around a 1997 too. A friend has a 97 and a 00 4 doors, both w stock from the factory 2.4s in them
when researching the VIN number the LD9 showed up
however im wondering how many came like this from the factory in 97. Like if it was a limited editoin type thing. i highly doubt it, but figured what better place to ask than here.
i know a guy on JBOC has a 4door with a LD9 but his is a 2000-02 (not sure on what year) basicly the 4door Auto Z.
...
4 door ls's came w/ the 2.4...for all years cept 95
they only made the z24 sedan in 2002 w/ the 2.4
if it was a sedan ls in 02 it had the eeecotec in it
By definition, the LS Sedan had a 2.4L from 96-02. I haven't seen an LS that didn't have the 2.4L. Most of them had the funky blue-dot interior too... ask Eric about his

I do not know about earlier years but for my 01 it was optional to have the 2.4.
The LS option gave the base sedan all the power options and sport/deluxe interior.
It was still an option to get the 2.4 (which automatically gave you the 4 speed automatic in sedan models), alloy wheels, premium stereo and rear trunk spoiler.
which was about all you could get in a sedan at the time.
Just my two cents worth - but I have not seen that many LS sedans with 2.4's - for that matter I do not see that many LS sedans either.
Er, I stand corrected. I read the wrong column of "S" and "O" in my brochure
2.2L came standard, 2.4L as option, in Canada in 2000.
2001 it was standard with a 2.4L, same with the Z24. All others (VL coupe/sedan, VLX sedan) had the 2.2L, no option for a 2.4L unless you special ordered it.
2002 was the same, but the VLX coupe added.. same deal, standard 2.2L.
Couldn't get the teal fleck/ graphite interior after 2001 either... 2002 was just graphite.. no red fleck either.

good infor, but what about in 1997? or even 95-99 phase 1's??? was it a special order to have the 2.4/ld9 instead of the 2.2 or was it just a rare bread

check ebay , maybe someone has an original brochure for Chevrolet cars from that time period.
just a thought
My brother has the LS 4 door with the 2.4 in it and it's a 97'. Sunfires have the same thing, the extra 2.4 engine I have ripped apart in my garage is out of a 4 dr sunfire.

the 2.4 was just a option like everything else
ive seen LS models with 2.2's and power door locks , cruise , and 4spd auto as the only options
my 97 LS sedan is a 2.4 auto , my 00 LS sedan is a 2.4 auto also
when i was working for chevy as a tech i saw alot of 2.4 sedans
