Hey guys. My brothers car's brakes are REALLY worn out. Press the pedal down halfway and nothing happens kinda worn out. Rotors and drums are warped like a mother.
Basically I just wanna know if changing the brakes on a 98 2.4L Z is hard or not. Is there any wheel bearings or stuff like that that have to come out for the rotors to pop off.
Is there anything to watch out for like backing plate being easily damaged or stuff like that. Is there a guide or something post on the a website or something so that i dont miss a step.
I have tools and i took apart drums a couple of times in auto. If you guys can give my anythings to look out for, id really appreciate it. thanks guys

Sorry, and also. How much did you guys pay for all fours brakes/pads and drums and shoes. Im looking at monroe brakes from canadian tire all around. Are they good brakes or should i shoot for something else. The car is driven really smoothly, no racing or anything like that. Thanks again

Yes someone answer about the monroes. if not im gonna assume their no good and get some baer brakes or something hehe.
Installing brakes in a z24 are pretty damn easy... You'll need a 3/8" allen key, or a 3/8 allen socket.
You can get rotors for 15 bucks each, and pads for about the same.. Any half decent auto parts store should have a few different selections for pads- the more expensive, the better they are. I wouldnt worry about going all out breaking the bank for parts- anything is better than what he has, and will be a world of difference.
I suggest doing the drum brakes one @ a time. Sometimes you can get confused putting them back together- and it helps having the other side still intact to use it for a reference.
Theres no wheel bearings to pop out- the rotors come right off after removing the caliper. compress the caliper piston a little bit, and the calipers slip right off.
I would probably install new front brakes first, and see how the car feels.. It has been my experience that the drum brakes don't get used that much- and shouldn't need to be replaced too often, but you never know.
Monroe brakes are probably fine- I wouldnt put too much though into it- just make sure you install them correctly and everything should be fine.

thanks red devil for taking to time to write a detailed responce. Ive been reading the old thread on brakes and it should be cake. Brake lab was a snap so this shouldn't be a problem. Peace Out Yall
