Last night I slammed on the brakes and blew out a brake line. It's leaking right before the driver's side rear tire. Anybody know how hard this will be to fix? How long should it take? Any help would be great,
Thanks,
Kyle
The metal line on the axle? Or the rubber hose that goes from the body line to the axle line?
Either way... not hard. Couple hours if you haven't done it before... that includes jacking up the car, taking off the wheel, replacing the line, trying to bleed the brake, throwing WD-40 at it, beer time while the WD-40 soaks in, actually bleeding the brake line, and running to the store to get more brake fluid because you ran out.
Not entirely sure yet, I haven't had it in the air. It's leaking before the tire well under the body. I would assume that's the rubber line then. Does the rubber line split into a few pieces or is it all one line from the master cylinder to the metal line???
The metal line is once piece from the MC/ABS to the rubber line. The rubber line continues to the caliper.
I blew a hose before on a Bonneville, it happen. One 8mm nut in the metal to rubber connection, a clip holding it in place, and a 10mm bolt holding the rubber hose to the caliper. You'll need 2 new copper washers if it's the rubber hose, don't forget them (And don't forget to take the old ones out or it will never stop dripping).
^ might want to check that.........
The metal line from the MC goes to the end of the car to the rubber line, then from the metal line to the trailing arm, then to a metal line again that connects to the rear drum.
Oops.. I thought he said front... Your right, he said rear and it's different than the front.
oops..... meant to say metal line to rubber line then back to metal line then to drum.... just to clarify
