Do we actually need bumpstops?

I'm curious about this. I have konis and ground control coilovers.

I notice that, when the springs are fully compressed, that there is still about 3" or more of space between the top mount and the bottom of strut travel.
So why bumpstops? They're only 2-3" anyway.

NO. Although I still have probably an inch of wheel gap. Never had a problem bottoming out, in fact, I don't see it being possible. Maybe it's just my springs.

You get a few fat people back there with a full trunk and hit a nice dip and you can bottom out. I never did it in my cav but going on a camping trip in my DD I had my whole back seat full and my trunk and certain dips I'd feel the car just tap the bump stops.
