Just wondering on the swap. What other calipers can be used instead of the neon rear calipers??
thanks.

Besides the SRT4 calipers, nothing really.
Unless you go with the older Daytona rear setup, you're pretty much stuck with the Neon setup.
Sure, you could use LH calipers or some others that are using the same caliper design as the Neons but there's nothing better about them over the standard calipers.
Stick with the SRT4 calipers and get the upgraded SRT4 rotors for your rear discs.

Thank you Dave and JBO!
Thanks man. I remember reading somewhere that some calipers were interchangeable with them. Hmmmmmmm

Actually you can use the LHS and Concord calipers as well. Along with their pads. Their all the same. I have the LHS calipers on my setup. I couldnt find a neon in the junkyard to save my life, so I eventually found out about the other two I just mentioned.

i just used 96 neon calipers from advance.... worked like a charm....
You can use pretty much any Chrysler rear caliper that is a similar setup.
I know for a fact that the concord stuff is the same. EVERYTHING(parking brake, pads, calipers, everything) is the same, except the bolt pattern on the rotor.
So if you cant find a neon in the yard, no problem, get everything off a concord and buy neon rotors for it.(you probably want new rotors anyway)
I have held neon calipers and concord calipers in each hand. There identicle, even the same part number casted into them.

They sure do. The one reason why 03+ fails.

Im really curious why people do this swap... Drum brakes are more efficient then disc, yes disc is easier to work on than drum, but im still puzzled.

I can see Formula One with all drum brakes on their cars.
I'll take a disc over drum any day.

more efficient when it comes to the life of parts? absolutely. more efficient when it comes to stopping power? not a chance in hell.
Drums arent the "look" either. How many performance cars come out of the factory with drums, not many.
Drum brakes are more efficient in alot of cases at stopping power than disc. Why do you think 18 wheelers have drum brakes? Hmmmm...

they use AIR powered drum brakes, which run much higher pressures and are more powerful setups than hydraulic drum brakes like on our cars. so its pretty hard to compare. and there are busses now that are using an air disc setup. why? because they stop better. less effort for the driver, and they reduce stopping distances by a hell of a lot. im not saying they can stop on a dime, it is a several ton vehicle with no passengers, add people and you can imagine, but it absolutely increases stopping power. im not too familiar with the setup, but i know its out there on at least a good portion of the NYC Transit busses. over the road trucks can put on over 100k miles sometimes in only a year or two. drum brakes are more practical in this situation due to longevity. if they were all running discs they'd be changing big ass pads way too often for it to be cost effective. thats the main reason.
but back on topic...

I'll take better looks, easier to work on, and quicker heat dissipation over @!#$ty looking, hot as hell and a pain in the ass to work on drums any day of the week

Im looking at this from the stand point of I work on cars 46.5 hours a week and drum brakes are no big deal to me. If you do some research on how drum brakes actually work they take less effort to stop a vehicle. They are self applying...

Drums are heavy, they greatly lack driver input response, they heat soak quickly and dont give the heat away very fast. Slightly more of a pain to work on, ugly, more likely to corrode due to traped moisture/dust. All the way around...drums loose to discs.

It is funny that you linked the Wikipedia page since the largest section on the whole page is about the Disadvantages of drum brakes.
I honestly don't mind my drums on anything but how they look. I mean they work absolutely fine to do all 15-20% of the braking that they have to do, and they also keep all the braking stuff in a tiny package, which is nice to keep rotational mass down.
On the other hand my Beretta just looks silly having 13" Baers up front and teeny tiny little drums hiding out back.
92-97 dodge intrepid calapers are the same as the ones on the neon and theres about a millon of them in the juncker lol i just picked up a set today for my rear disk swap im workin on
What about upgrading to bigger drums on the back of our jbodies? Is this possible?
