How to tighten strut mount bolt to spec?

it's that top bolt that holds the assembly together, it's suppose to be tightened to 55ftlbs

but how do you do that? if you put a torque wrench on it it will just turn the main rod

Had to use an impact wrench to tighten it

I just tightened it to the point where there is no more up/down play on the strut mount plate, yet the strut mount can still turn fairly free

hit with an impact gun and call it a day.

If your really worried about it you can take a shammy (to protect the shaft) and a bunch of vice grips and put them all in line to hold the shaft while you torque it. But again, impact and call it a day. As long as the mount doesn't slide up and down its fine, and you will know if its not on all the way when you drive

I agree. If you wanna get fancy, get a torque stick on your impact and get it more accurate, but i just impact and go.

Impact has always worked for me, but I agree with John about the torque stick.

I had a problem where the nut kept loosening from the rod. It wouldn't come all the way off so I would have to retighten it, I added some locktite to it worked well.
