monroe quick strut vs. kyb gr2

Hello
I am still trying to narrow down my choice for struts and springs, was about to purchase gr2's and came across the monroe quick strut, it is the spring and strut in one package, I am looking at these and the gr2 strut which doesnt have a spring, the monroes are approx 165 apiece and the gr2 about 80-90. Has anyone had experience with these quick struts, my car had 223k, I am wondering if i should replace the strut and then see if the spring is ok, or replace spring and strut at one time.

would love to hear advice
chris

Yes, I guess it was in a way, but specifically I was asking if it would be feasible to just try a strut first, before the spring, check the ride and then replace springs if necessary

thats up to you and if you want to spend the money on another alignment and taking time out again to do your suspension.

so your paying $300-$340 more just to get springs. even if you had to get another alignment it would still be cheaper. hell.....3 to 4 alignments would be cheaper still.

unless......do the monroes come with strut mounts also??

Yes, the quick struts are fully assembled with brand new mounts as well. They are perfect for the home mechanic with lack of knowledge and tools to properly change struts.

The increase in cost is easily made up in labor to have someone change the struts if you are not capable.

for a situation like the OP is having, with severe bottoming out, I would REALLY recomend the quick struts. I think buying GR2's and then finding out you need springs, and re-doing all the work is a waste of time and money FOR THE OP.

assuming the OP knows what he is doing, the only way i would recommend the quicks is because more than likely he needs new mounts, which are $50-$60. i think the sever bottoming out would be due to factory struts with 230k on them. springs dont sag that much to warrant replacement IMO. you could also find someone on the org to sell you their factory springs.

all four gr-2's for $225
