struts or coil springs

Hello everyone
question....on my 98 z24 the suspension is gone I think 223k miles. Bottoms out in potholes, picks up every bad spot in road. I have heard opinions to replace struts, but some say springs are fatigued and need replacement, so which one is it?

thanks for your help

if your bottoming out its your struts. could the springs be worn out? well the car does have 223k on it. you shouldnt have to replace them but you can. unless they are broke or something. your problem is the struts though

Springs do have a recomended life span, which you are over.....but I agree with the above statement, your struts are the main culprit.

Are there any autozone or advance struts you would even remotely recommend? I am not lowering the car, but from reading the posts here most people hate the autozone/advance parts, thanks for all of your help. I do want a nice ride, I am in the process of "restoring"the car you might say. new paint , mechanical issues fixed, etc.

thanks again

If you're bottoming out more than usual, I'd blame the springs. The struts don't stop you from bottoming out. They stop you from bouncing. It's the springs that hold the car up and if the springs fully compress to the end of your available travel, then you bottom out on the bump stops. I'd say there's a good chance you need to replace both.

I would recommend Monroe quick struts for your application, they are new struts, springs, and mounts, already assembled. Just un-bolt the old, and toss in the new. no spring compressor required.

All you need after that is an alignment.
