Suspension Pricing

I am in Arizona on business and need to change my struts, it bottoms out on every bump. Since I am out on business I need to have it done for me. I got 2 quotes for $700 using MONROE struts. Does this sound about right? $250 for parts the rest is labor

for 4? if so the price for the parts is good however the labor is whats killing you. seems like they are charging nearly 2 hours per corner which is crazy. you could do all 4 in 2 hours

3.5 hours of labor

Pep Boys wanted $650 for the same thing so $700 sounds about right. I'd wait and do it yourself to save $500 lol

damn i just dont done doing my springs and it took less then 2hrs, and that was using a ratchet rather then an air gun to speed up the process. 60-80hr at most shops around here to do anything

what? normal shops charge around 60-70 bucks an hour for work (atleast around here they do). 700 minus the 250 for parts leaves you 450 which if you divide by 3.5 is 128.57 an hour. my lexus dealer doesnt even charge me that much an hour lol. buy the parts from them and do it yourself. it will be a good learning experience.

yeah, get a spring compressor from the rental tools section and go to town.

When I was working as a mechanic, struts payed 0.9 hours a corner. plus an alignment afterwards. (which payed 1.25 hours)
so a 4 corner strut job would pay 4.85 hours. I usually got the struts done in just under an hour, and the alignment would depend on how well i got camber putting the struts back in.
