I had the anti sway bar installed about a month ago now seems to me both rear strut mounts are fried because of the clunking noises, will the anti sway bar have anything to do on the mounts going bad?
no likely.
Its well known Jbody strut mounts are garbage, its very common to go through them like water when you have aftermarket suspension
Any after market heavy duty (stronger) rear strut mounts? I allredy bought KYB to replace mine but if they won´t last better start looking for stronger ones...
search this forum, there is a tread about a company that makes solid mounts front and rear. They will be noisier then stock replacements but they will last.
Get yourself som TEIN SS's
solves the problem at all 4 corners.
Unfortunately the stock mounts don't handle stiffer suspension very well, but a swaybar shouldn't cause that. make sure that your endlinks are tightened down, as well as the plates on the twist beam.

Turns out only one was fried, I had both replaced and kept the old one as a spare. It was really noisy with just one mount broken...
Not sure why you guys go through so many mounts. Fronts for 00-05 are junk but for 95-99 front and 95-05 rear there hasnt been any know problem to GM. I still have yet to have a set of rears go out.

GM probably wont acknowledge any problem with the fronts either. I've had 2 malibus and now 2 cavalier break front strut mounts. WTF is GM's problem? Also, the same AC recirc switch on 3 different malibus busted. Power lock switch on malibus too. GM wont acknowledge anythign that wont directly kill you. They'd be out of business by last century if they did.
But hey if they keep prices down and give me $3000 gm card rebates I cant complain
Actualy GM has redesigned the front mounts several times (same mount between N and J car). they know there is an issue with the fronts. As stated though I have yet to see mine go out on either J. I never replaced a set of rear mounts in the 7 years i worked in GM dealers. As far as switches in the N cars i had to work on, the only ones were busted were because the operator pushed on them to hard. Just because you had a problem with them doesnt mean that it is problem with everyone else. believe me when i say that GM has acknoledged lots of insignificant things that were know issues, and they did fix them. They do the same with any know problem once they determine what the fault in the part is.
Also if you want to keep getting those $3000 rebates you had better expect cheaper parts in the future. Consumers demand lower prices and something has to give to allow it. You can bet it wont be labor in the plant. I would gladly pay an extra $3000 for the car if it meant higher quality parts were used, but most people wouldnt.
