RKsport coilovers (full)
Friday, January 04, 2008 4:52 AM
I bought a full coilover setup from a guy on this site. got them. they were okay and only told me the strut mounts had to be changed. put them on and noticed that the front struts are shot. Now its cool im not mad or anything but im trying to replace the front cartriges. I was on the rksport website and didnt notice a coilover setup for cavaliers. if so i didnt look at it right. If anyone has any info would really help. I have an 04 cavalier but think this setup is for an 02 and older. i just got the new strut mounts and they fit fine. but need to find out how to change these front struts out. thanks.

its the prostreets and they arent made anymore. are you positive the fronts are shot? i have a good idea who sold them to you and i dont think he would try to rip anyone off.

its the prostreets like i mentioned made by rksport. like i said also they are no longer made anymore. define "shock play" obviously you should be able to move it when you push on it. does it rebound when you push it all the way down?

If it is truely blown, just pickup a set of Koni Yellow front inserts and be better off than when you started

when you push down on a shock you should have pressure and when you let go it should come back up. well both of them, the first 2 inches its free play. no rebound or nothing. push it down and stays down. push it more then you get pressure.....................About the koni yellow inserts are you able to put those on the coilovers???

I don't see why it is not possible. You are just removing the RK insert and replacing it with the Koni insert

Rksport is saying i need to do something else and i just think they dont understand me. i talked with a guy from rksport and he said they dont make "pro streets" that eibach does. so he gave me the number to eibach but even they dont have the part numbers or anything. if anyone has any idea what im talkin about hit me up or just help me. this @!#$ is pissing me off. thanks.

B+G suspension made the Pro Street Coilovers that RK Sport sold.

I also have those coilovers, so I'm interested to see if you can have yours repaired or not. Try contacting the US B+G suspension, ask them if they can still rebuild the cavalier coilovers they made. Obviously you will have to pay for it, if they will.

Let me know if you find anything out, Good Luck!

i contacted a place down south that can rebuild struts i forget who they were, but these struts have a nipple on one end that indicates they can be rebuilt.

i have my set, that were replaced with Koni Reds that i think a front and rear is blown, anybody wants 'em? $200 plus shipping

Contact B&G USA in San Diego/Sorrento Valley (http://www.b-gsuspension.com/). When RKS discontinued them B&G advise them to keep some sets for warranty issues and RKS did not do this, but B&G can direct you to an authorized rebuilder.

I'm not familiar with the RK coilover kit, but I really don't see why you couldn't put the Koni cartridges in them just like a regular front strut.
Has anyone taken measurements off the strut housings and compared to stock?

The Koni inserts are only made to fit in the OEM strut housing. They are not made to go into any other body. Will it work, maybe, but most likely not and really most likely not in the RKS body.

Looks like rebuilding may be your only option.

A Koni insert can be used in any housing it fits in. One housing is just as good as another. As long as the insert physically fits inside the housing, it will work. A 3rd gen Koni insert is 13 5/16" long (from underside of lip to bottom of mounting stud), and fits in a 52mm (IIRC) tube. If the RK housings will accept it, you can use it. If its shorter than 13 5/16", you might be able to use 2nd gen Eclipse inserts, which are 12 3/4" long, and the same diameter. If that doesn't work, contact Koni, and a very nice guy named Gordon will write back to you. Tell him the dimensions you need and he will tell you what fits.
