So when i turn my wheel lately i hear and more feel a poping noise comeing from the steering wheel. is this a cv problem? and can i drive on it like this?
Thanks
Same thing happened on my car, the shop i took it to had no idea what it was, so i ended up getting 800$ worth of parts for 150$ cuz they couldnt fix it. and i asked them to check the CV joints, they said they were all fine, its at a dealer right now, hopefully they will figure it out cuz its really annoying

Well mine was making the same noise, and i SUPER greased my ball joints (which were leaking grease to begin with) and the popping went away temporarily. So i bought new ball joints, and ill see how things go when i do my big suspension install.
ill let you guys know.

i thought it was balljoints too, cuz my old van made the same noise then the joint broke and i almost died, shop said my joints were fine. im hoping you find out that's the problem so i can just call them dumbasses and replace the joints

Yeah, hopefully in the next two weeks ill find out. Karo hasn't been around i guess. I put my order in a day or so ago and the money isnt even deducted yet.

well, the entire car has been gone over 3 times and at the shop for a week, they have replaced everything that was even close to needing it. Everything else is in perfect working order. still pops and clunks when i turn. they have no idea what it could be. and i certainly dont have a clue.

the steering shaft needs lubed... thats all there is too it.

I had the same problem with my car on 2 diferent spring kits. If you are using a coilover kit the problem lies on your strut mounts which suck on Js. When you put the assemble together if at the top of the spring there is a little cap that goes in between the spring and the srut rod thats the problem. The noise is that cap settling on the twisted spring. I haven't found a sure fire way but wire tie the cap to the spring will get rid of the noise how ever after time the ties break. If there is no cap then I would replace the mounting plate assembly on the strut tower. Hope this helps!!
i have had this problem on all 4 of my J's its the upper strut mounts and the bearings that are in there they wear out pretty fast, DONT go to the dealer for these parts unless your prepared to spend some hella money, auto zone sells them im sure pretty much any parts store can get them, it took me forever to figure this out but im glad i finally did, check into that and let me know if thats what you needed even tho im about 99% sure thats what it is
had the same problem except it was the intermediate steering shaft that needed to be lubed... since then no problems
I have this problem, but to me it sounds like strut mounts. I'm just not motivated enough to pull the suspension. I guess that's what winter is for.

Are you guys feeling this kind of between the steering wheel down to your brake pedal? I get something like that too, like a pop/clunk noise, but only when the steering wheel is turned to the left (I feel it on slow reversing with the wheel turning to the left) and if I am in park and just jolt the steering wheel left to right I feel it as well.
At higher speeds, or driving I dont feel it.
Is this the same issue, or something else.
Would appreciate any feedback of help.
Thanks.
gm has posted about the intermediate shaft popping..
i have the same noise.. its a cavalier
ive replaced the strut housing.. and are they crap..& the little rubber sheet that goes between your spring and housing is probably off center.. and your springs are popping on your plastic housing.. b/c the housing does not have the proper shape for the springs they say it works for.. : /
i used a few strips of electrical tape on the little gasket to keep it atleast on the edge of the spring...
is anyone out there making an insert for this? since a lot of us are having this problem...
mines on monroe struts though.. nothing fancy

^^^ What he said, that sounds exactly like what it probably is. I'm having the popping in the middle liek the springs are popping on the spring perch or else the strut mounts are just @!#$.
It IS a Cavalier after all.

Is this covered under warranty work if I take it in? I still have bumper to bumper warranty.
Will they know what it is and be able to find/resolve it, or will they be lost??
My parents have a 03 Tracker as well, same kind of noise, but they kept the car all day, and could not figure out what it was or how to fix it.
Any help?
