I have an 05 Sunfire 1C with the 'sport suspension' (if that matters) and just in the past month my front end has started making creaking noises whenever I go over bumps and dips in the road. I took it to a local shop and they greased up the upper shock tower bushings. The mechanic then told me there's no guarantee the creaking noises won't come back. He said he used to work at a Pontiac dealership for several years and that it's a problem with the parts Pontiac uses. He said, I can continue to come back and he'll grease the tower bushings for free....or if I want, I could replace the strut bearings and bushings (for around $600). But he said, this won't guarantee the creaking will stop either, because the parts themselves are crap. I'm just wondering, since he acted like this is a common Pontiac issue, has anyone else had this problem? If so, how did you fix it? My car started creaking again about a week after he greased it. I have no idea what to do. Is he telling the truth? I can't imagine why he would lie, since he hasn't charged me either of the 2 times I've been there. But I just find it hard to believe I'll have to put up with this creaking noise forever. I would take my car to a dealership, but naturally, my warranty literally expired the day before this all started. He said it's not a safety issue to let it go, but I just can't stand listening to these noises. I've had 20 year old cars that made less noise than my 2 year old car! Please help me out!
I should also mention the creaking occurs almost constantly when going over any surface that is the slightest bit uneven...which is basically everywhere, here in PA. It sounds like it's coming from right in front of me, and in the same spot on the passenger's side. It amost has a bit of a rattle to it. From the sound of it, you would think the springs are completely loose and just jiggling around, even though they appear fine.
Has the front end of youre car has had grease job done lately?. Also could have something wrong with youre strut mounts wornout.
I haven't had anything done to my front end except them greasing the upper shock tower bushings....which made it stop creaking.....for about 5 days.
I had the same problem with mine..You need new strut mounts....The factory ones are really cheap...I don't believe it is 600 hun to do the work should only take about 1 hour but you will need to get a wheel alignment done after..Also depending on how many miles you have on the car..If you are thinking of lowering the car you might as well do it all at once...Also if you just do the mount check the struts while it is all apart..You may want to change your struts at this time..It will save you money in the long run...
Spray Some Silicone Lube Thru The Top Of The Strut Mount After A Couple Times It Should Goaway
front sway bar mount D-bushings need cleaned and lubed.
