I posted in the Aluminum control arm thread suggesting that I might be able to get around 10 sets of the aluminum control arms. After seeing there was interest in this I looked deeper and found that the cars I thought I could get these from had mostly had their sub-frames removed. So as is the most I could get is 3.5 sets of arms (One was way bent).
With that said I know there is interest in getting those arms and I can probably find more around here. There seems to be lots of Grand Am's.
I think I was going to offer the arms just as they come from the G-am for one price, and a more expensive price with them removed, bushings and ball joint removed, holes filled and new ones drilled and ends ground to match.
Another thing I was curious about is if anyone wants the spindles, hubs and axles? The G-am parts for the N-F-W swap. I figure while I am removing the control arms I might as well see if anyone wants more parts. Make's the time at the junk yard more cost effective.
I am simply asking here, not promising anything. I have no idea what shipping would be, or how much anything would cost. This is just a feeler.
If your interested in either parts let me know. If there's enough interest I will see about setting it all up. I hope I can find all the parts if there is much interest.
Thanks
Ethan
I'm first in line for arms
id be intrested in a set or arms..depends on price of course..phil
jw....whats the point of the new aluminum arms? just to have new parts? lighter?
* * BIG FOR SALE POST * *
They are lighter and some what stronger. i have them on my car. i am probably going to remove them though. i am 1 mm short on the driver side so it pulls to the left at eighty. i just need to redo the wholes. another tip is make sure you have the right ball joints the steel arm balls will not allow you to grease them with the aluminum arm. and yes it is worth it. i have noticed a nice redusctio in wheel hop. but i also got poly bushings at the same time.
The poly bushings will definitely make a large improvement in regards to wheel hop, you don't need the aluminum arms to do that. However, I am sure the new arms also reduce some more as well. The one arm I saw that was bent is a good testament to their strength. I am sure seeing the rest of the car that the steel ones would have just folded in half.
NightmaresCavy, I want to make sure I get the dimensions right. From the thread I need to re-locate the holes exactly 1/2 inch in, right? You said yours is off I want to make sure I avoid that, especially if I am selling them already modified.
Thanks
measure 2 twice drill once. As for mine i went to get the bolts while a freind drilled the holes. my mistake. the person who originaly welded the holes was going to cnc new ones but i didn't want to a 150 for 6 holes. now i wish i had. if you are going to produce these make a jig for drilling the holes.
what year grand ams have the aluminum control arms?
so these aluminum control arms will be direct replacement? if so, how soon could i get a pair and how much???

The advantage is less unsprung weight and less weight in front of the car, bringing weight distribution closer to that magical 50/50 and that is what you want for better control of the car. Call it "neutral feeling" if you will.
(For the record, on a FWD car, you will never achieve 50/50 weight distribution.)
Is aluminum stronger then steel? If both have the same amount of material, no. Aluminum is not stronger then steel. In order for aluminum to become strong, it would need a nice layer of it and/or engineer it in a way so it won't fracture easily.

For more information about the aluminum control arms look in the thread started by John Lenko. Yes the modified arms would be a direct replacement, I don't have a price yet because I am gauging interest. It won't be too bad though. The arms come only from 99 Grand Am's. No other years had it, and I think only GAM's, not Alero's.
I am on Vacation now, so when I get back to SLC I should have time to research and get more information. I will let everyone know when I have these ready to ship
No one so far has replied about interest in the spindles axles or hubs. Is no one wanting those parts as well? No one waiting for parts for the NFW swap?
EThan become a premy and then start quoteing what the swap will cost. with and with out gp. i might be interested in the nfw swap.
99 N-cars. Alero, Malibu, Grand Am.
so this is what i am getting from this here, correct me if im wrong...i can get a control arm from ^^ those models, which are aluminum and stronger, and put it in my cav, and be better off.

They just wont flex as much and mated with the prothane bushings, would eliminate wheel hop
thats what i get from it
the thing i was trying to confirm before i ordered was that if i went to the dealer and bought two 99 Grand Am arms, they would be aluminum and bolt up same as stock. i am having to replace ball joints and was gonna do alum arms and bushings while i got it out, and i wanted to be sure.

Wheel hop will be reduced/eliminated with polyurethane bushings. Aluminum a-arms are for something else.
