I was doing a quick search for the weights on rotors for our cars ( stock size ) and nothing came up. I have seen many different companies offering rotors and wanted to know if anybody has the weight of a single rotor or pairs. I have some friends who have purchased power slot rotors in the past and claim they are heavy as hell. I am currently going to be purchasing some new rotors and was specifically looking at bear slotted or brembo rotors.
So does anybody know or have the weights for rotors being oem or aftermarket?
Brands that come to mind are-
Baer
Brembo
Power slot
SP
Centric
any input is appreciated. Thanks
well I found some info from buybrakes.com
Brembo-25lbs each
Powerslot-12lbs each
Prostop-slotted dimpled-12 each
EBC-Blackdashseiries slotted-24lbs for a pair.
I think I will be getting the EBC Rotors/pads and some stainless lines in the next week or two. If anyone else has more to add feel free, I already made my mind up on what I plan to purchase.
Baer Decella two piece or something like that are the lightest IIRC.
I ordered some Powerslots off ebay. Waiting on them to get here. Once they do I will weight them. I have Mantapart Cross drilled and slotted on currently. I will weight themwhen I swap them out. I would think twice about the EBC pads. They are very dusty!! I hated them and they did not last long either.

I have power slots sitting right here next to me... but whats to say my scale is exactly accurate compared to what the others were weighted on???
if I had all the rotros here i woudl weigh them and it may not be 100% accurate in terms of what they weight, but it would be 100% accurate comaparision
ive got powerslots on my 00 z24 for a year now, i love them, im using ceramic napa pads and they feel real nice, stop great way better than stock, and have lasted alot longer than any stock stuff i used before.
Rotors look like new still, no rust or anything.
Whatever you decide stick with slotted rotors, crossdrilled can cause problems.
hmm.. posted last post in the wrong thread.. sorry..
^ no biggi Phife.....
Dark stars- good point on the different scales getting different weights. I didnt even think of that when I posted this origionally before I went to work.
John Higgens- What EBC pads did you go with the green, red, yellow?
CTS-I couldnt find the decela rotors in the two peice for the cavi....but I only checked 2 places before I went to work today. I'm going to look into it more tonight as I dont work till noon tomarrow. I will post up what I find on the net.
I haven't seen 2 piece stock sized/ stock replacement rotors
I cant seem to find 2 peice stockers anywhere....so I think I'm going to stick to the EBC rotors and yellow pads and russel lines.
CTS- If you know a part number I could look up for the decela rotors thats cool but I dont think they make them for the cavi in stock size. Thanks for the input though.
the only two-piece rotors I've seen for the j-body are an upgrade on the wilwood setup. If I'm wrong, someone please inform me. I'd love to drop some more rotational mass.

A more accurate observation has never been typed. These should be the starting points before any serious performance modification. What's the point of making a serious performer if you can't control it's power?

This is why it is common practice to 'zero' scales before measuring

. The only error you would now have (from all practical standpoints, stupid little things like a weaker gravitational field and slight variants from non-linear distortion or wear are negated) is the scale resolution. Most scales used for things like this will have a resolution of maybe an ounce, scales for weighing people would be about 2 lbs max (still good enough for something like this), a truck scale may be as high as 100lbs.

Greens.
I'm with OHV on the scale thing. I always zero mine out before weighting anything. Of course nothing is exact, but to have a nice idea is cool.

John Higgins- thanks for the reply on what pads ur using. hypsy has been using the yellows for a while and he likes them so I think I'm going to give it a shot, since they are a relitivly new pad/compound from ebc. Once I drive on them for a while I will post about them.
What do you know. I got my rotors today. I just weighted one of the power stops. 10lbs. I will probably be installing them latter today and will weight the Mantapart ones. This weekend I will try to weight a stock rotor as well.

Cool beans....then we can get a list going for those people who are keeping track of rotational weight and want to lower their unsprung weight.
Ok I weighted one fo the Mantapart rotors (keep in mine it has been used for a few years and not sure how many miles) it weighted 11lbs.

This is important. I was looking for a lightweight rim without breaking the brank. If you can shave even 5 pounds off the rotating mass by changing rotors that it a hell of alot cheaper then trying to do it by finding a rim 5 pounds lighter.

I think I found the Baer Decela rotors in stock size. I bought them from Autozone. They should be in tomorrow. I will know for sure then. I also bought a stock rotor. The stock rotor cost 24.99 a peice. This is for the 2yr free replacement one. This is what is on my car roght now. The stock rotor weighs 11.31 pounds. The scale I used is accurate to within .01 @25 puonds. I will post the weight of the decela rotor tomorrow. Hope this helps.

Thanks Wade....do you know if the rotor you purchased was 1 peice or 2 peice? Either way thanks for taking the time to weigh it when i comes in....eventually I will compile alist of weights for the rotors and maybe more time permitting.

Ah, but it's not just losing rotational weight, the weight has to be in all the right spots to see a benefit. The further the removed weight was from the axis of rotation, the more power you save.

Sorry for the delay. With the recent weather Fed EX did not dliver the rotors to Auto Zone the next day like they usualy do.
To clear up some confusion here. The Baer Decela rotors that Auto Zone sells are a direct replacement fit. They are not oversized and they are a one peice design. And they are zinc coated to resist rusting. Also the rotors are marked left side with an L and right side with an R due to the directional drilling and slotting.
Bear Decela rotor weighs 10.96 pounds. I used the same scale I weighed the stock ones on to give an accurate comparision. The scale used a fairbanks scale that is accurate to .01 @25 pounds. I also have a set of SSBC oversized rotor currently on my black Z24. I will weigh those soon and post the results. They are slightly used about 1,400 miles on them, so they should still be fairly close to the weight of new ones.

Cool beans! I will have to get one of my rotors to work so I can weigh the EBC rotors I purchased....I've just meeb lazy.
