Struts or shocks for air ride?
Sunday, December 31, 2006 5:03 PM
Ok so my buddy has a 95 grand am. Yes I tried other car forum but no help in there. He has an air ride setup that keeps his rear shocks/struts whatever that car has in the rear. Right now he is on stock ones. He is wondering what type of shocks/struts to replace them with. I told him to my knowledge he would have to get some custom valved and made to withstand that much stress. Do you guys know of any that he can try or a place that he can contact to get some made? Also his front end doesn't sit as low as he would like. He tells me there is no clearance issues and that its just the strut bottoming out hindering it form lowering anymore. So again any ideas or a place that can custom fab up something to help him out? Now mind you this car is a daily driver when its running and working dunno if that will help but he would need stuff thats is quality and will hold up to some abuse.

im guessing he has a what is known as a "bag over axle" set up on a truck. Except his is on the cross member?

I think he's going to have to custom fab up some mounts, and use Toxic Shocks or something like that.

who needs shocks, just ride straight bags, thats how my new setup is going to be but some people dont like the ride so they put shocks in to ride like cadilaacs

yea i would say run toxic shocks or just straght bags. ive drove a couple trucks now with straight bags up front with no shocks and its not bad at all. it rides real nice too.

but you can hit up like suicidedoors.com and buy some shock relocating tabs and run the toxic shocks and it would be all good

Just grab some J-Body rear struts. 95 N-Body uses the exact same rear setup as 3rd gen J-Bodies (with a few minor differences).

We used Nissan Hardbody pickup shocks for the rear of mine and just fabbed up some mounting tabs and put them in. The one time I've driven my car since it rode asweome lol
