Anyone try the brackets on ebay for rear disc conv
Friday, March 17, 2006 2:05 PM
I keep seeing brackets on ebay for converting rear drum to disk. Has anyone had luck with them?? There is a set that uses fiero rotors which are 5 x 100 bolt spacing. The calipers can be used from a grand prix.

The brackets are $139

They've been around for a while. I guess they work, I don't remember anybody talking about problems with them. You loose your e-brake if I remember correctly.

Is there anyone who's not currently trying to sell a set that has pics and can post about their experiences with them?

It seems a bit pricey for just the brackets but if the rest of the kit can be pieced together cheap and without issue they may be a great deal.

If you want pictures of the brackets email scarebird.com as they were the ones originally contracted out to make 10 sets or so for the guy to throw on ebay. I deleted my pictures after talking to scarebird & the guy selling them (bugshields@yahoo.com I think). I simply didnt like that he went with the non vented version of the Fiero rotors when the 1988 uses 10.25 vented & wasnt looking to remove my mustang calipers lol Was much easier to just have one made for my calipers with the 88 rotors.

But email scarebird & they will send some nice close ups if they still have the one set left that they had.

I just recieved mine. I am going to be putting them on soon so I will keep in touch. Looks like a decent kit. You do keep your e-brake. Just too bad they are solid rotors.

Being solid rotors isn't a big deal. It sounds like they'll complement the stock front brakes nicely.

This swap seems more straight forward then the Neon Swap.

Im on the wrong pc to pull up the Fiero specs, but if the 87 has 10.25 rotors you could probably get away with using the 88 vented ones if it was that important that you used vented. Depends on if the GP calipers can use 0.75 wide rotors also. Only reason I wasnt into the 87 for being solid is that a solid rotor is way to thin to try using with my existing calipers. It's the rear though, vented isnt that big of a deal & anything is better then wasting 800 on a kit with a 12" rotor lol. Hell, wish I made my own kit years ago rather then having the ssbc 12" rear on for all these years.... Although one plus side to still using my rar calipers, greenstuff pads for the mustang rear are only $32 shipped

There's nothing wrong with having 12" rear rotors... so long as you've got 13" front rotors to match up with them.

12" rear rotors blow if you live in the middle of no-where Maine & can only get inspections or alignments with factory wheels on. They can't align the car with 1" rear spacers on to allow the stock rims to fit over the rear discs, & they also wouldnt pass inspection or do alignments with the 18's on. Otherwise I wouldnt have tossed away my SSBC kit for a reduced size rear using 1988 Fiero rotors...

ya, i found out that my friend sara can order all the rear neon brake components that i need brand new for cheap. Be able to do the whole thing for less than $200.00. That is of course with her discount and includes rotors, calipers, brackets, dust shield, and new ebrake components, etc.

That bracket pictured is a joke, the ones Andrew Neufang made up are far better designed, although I don't have pics of them on my car yet, as they are not on my car yet, lol. I do have a pic he sent me on my computer at home, I'll try and post it sometime if I remember.
