I need to replace the motor in my sons 92 cav w/ 2.2 auto what year cars work, car has hole in piston, also where is the most reasonable place to get a replacement carpet, lastly, what year z24 hoods work, not worried about function just cosmetic outside....Thank you
This might do better in the 2nd gen forum, but here goes
1. Engines, your best bet is at a junkyard. Try to find one with reasonable mileage, and find out how much it would cost.
2. Carpet can also be found at the junkyard, but in less-than-stellar condition. Your alternative is to buy new molded carpet from Aplusperformance.com
3. All hoods from Cavaliers and Pontiac Sunbirds will fit from 91-94 without modification. 88-90 can be used if you swap out the hood latch as well.
'92 was MPFI, IIRC. If it is, any 2.2L from '92-97 should work.
Carpet is widely available from an array of online vendors, or traditional sources like JC Whitney.
Hood question was answered above. Also, functionality (not that it means a whole lot) can be achieved by snagging the Z24 airbox lid as well.
1989 Z24 Convertible - Dust Covered
2006 tC - Dust Covered, but driven more
try and find a 94-95 2.2 very similar to the 92-93 with the addition of a roller cam still using the vacuum egr and all that stuff 96-97 are more work to fit in there since they use a digital egr which IIRC uses different mounting so you would need to swap out the thermostat block on the side of the head for the older style anyway
Thank you everyone!!!!!!!
