hey guys, happy holidays to ya's all!
my 94 Cavalier 2.2L is in storage for the winter, but i know for a fact that both Left and Right lower control arms are bad. the right one is rotten very badly and the left isn't much better. i want to pick up a left and a right over the winter, to get installed in the spring. i seen two lower control arms on eBay, for around $80cdn + shipping but both were left's. should i look online for used control arms, or something like that should i just go to the dealer for? or even are there any aftermarket control arms that may be cheaper than OEM from the dealer? and what years would be compatible with my '94? the ebay ones said 82-94, would that be right?
i am fairly new with the front end stuff. also, are the control arms from the 94 z24 the same as the 94 VL? anyway, sorry for the long read. i'm not in a huge rush or a panic or anything, i just want to learn myself on the front end stuff before the winter in terms of what i need and where i need to go to find parts and then get them installed.
thanks so much for any advice!

Any 82-94 control arm will fit. The dealer prices are about $100US each side. I've never seen any aftermarket ones, but I'm sure they're out there somewhere. Talk to your local bodyshop and ask if they can get them for you.

2nd Gen control arms.. where?
They are under the car, near the wheels. hope this helps.
Thanks for the info James, good idea i will check with bodyshops. used wouldnt be a good idea for something like that i guess. definately gonna go new then
Protonus: yeah i need to upgrade to premium or whatever so i can edit. i meant to ask where would be the best place to purchase these, i'm aware of where they're located.
thanks though!

I'd just go to a junkyard and find them. Control arms off any 1st or 2nd gen J will work, along with any beretta and the pre 97 grand am's.

I know... I was being a jackass
You won't see an edit button even if you do go premium. I've been waiting for over 4 years now.
I figured you wanted them new. I agree with pezed- you can pull them out of a junkyard. Just make sure they are in good shape. They tend to rot in the middle of the arm, but there are plenty of good ones still out there.
sweet.. yeah i will probably go the used route first... and see if i can find anything that looks like it will last awhile. i live in an area of Canada where we use ALOT of salt on our roads, so if there are any good ones at all i will find them but our cars tend to rust quickly up here. if i have to go new, i'll go new
my poor Cavalier has seen 11 winters before I got it, but after re-doing the exterior, painting it, and cleaning the rust off of the undercarriage, i doubt it will see any more winters while i am the owner
again thanks guys

No they won't. Berreta C/Arms and Nbody (Grand am ect) Changed in 1994 to a vertical rear bushing on the control arm.
Just get some from a wrecker. While your at it order up some Energy suspension Poly urethane control arm bushings to help stiffen up the front end.

Hey CrazyKev goto the J-Body Association of Nova Scotia website there are a couple of guys there that know what they are talking about when it comes to J-Bodies. matter of fact go on there and look for a guy by the name of Lorne Hazelwood his name on th eboard is 95sunfire GT I think. Anyway he has done a lot of work on My Z24 matter of fact he is the only one that I would let touch my Z other then me. He just put a 3.1L in his 95 Sunfire. That website is www.jans.ca goto the forum page and creat a log in.
Hope this helps you out.

Am I the only one that laughed at Protonus' comment?
I'd say just get some junkyard arms, clean them up a little and repaint them. Should last a very long time...

ok.... back from the dead, lol
i found some control arms, i was hoping to order a poly control arm bushing set.... i gave the guy at the performance shop the part # from energy suspension (#3.3154) and he said theres a footnote that says "z24 only".. my car isn't a Z but as far as i knew the only difference between the Z and the VL suspension is a rear sway bar? or am i wrong?
why wouldnt the control arm bushings fit a non- Z?
thanks fellas, sorry for diggin this one up LOL.

They will fit. The Z's came with the sport suspension package: larger front and rear sway bars, stiffer rear cntrl arm bushing, stiffer springs. They must have thought this deserved a disclaimer, but the actual control arm is the same regardless of which suspension package you have.
Double-checked the footnote on those bushings. Don't worry they'll still fit your car, but I made a mistake: the "Z24 only" note applies to another footnote about Z's with vertical rear mounts on the control arm. These bushings won't work if you have the vert mounts which were only on the Z's.
Sorry about that.
