Ok I've been told for the 2.2 Cavaliers that it is better to hook up the wire to the ecm. I've heard it's the white wire... Can anyone tell me is the wire in this picture correct?
Here's the one coming from the ecm...
If it was a 94, I would say look for the B11 wire on the center connector for the ECM, but the 93s have a different ECM (with only two connectors), so I can't tell you for sure.
According to that diagram, it looks like I have no choice but to do like the instructions said and hook it up to the DIS ignition coil. Another problem though, during the process of trying to splice the dimmer switch wire with the illumination wire the dimmer switch wire (brown wire) broke
Is there anyway to fix this?
Connecting to the ICM will only give you half the actual RPM. Try connecting to the D5 wire in the C1 connector, it may or may not work.
Distant- do you have the ECM wiring diagram (not just the pin outs)?
i beleived i used the white wire in the cluster of wires coming out of the fire wall on the driver side heading towards the passenger side along the firewall in the engine bay...
but i hooked my tach up in 2002... so its been awhile...

Is this the brown wire from Headlight switch to fuse block or the brown/white from lamp dimmer module to dimmer switch
Is this link any help

Here's the picture of the broken dimmer switch wire
XsTrEmE-Delusions(CensorThis!): How can I get to those cluster of wires?
James Cahill: I don't think the D1 would work since it's just ground.
Thanks for the help

D5 is the ignition control output.

Thanks for all the help, It's working now but I didn't install it. Instead I took it to a motorcycle shop and let my friend install it. I'll post pics tomorrow.
Oh yeah, there was no need to remove the glove box either.
It must be the batch/sequential difference between 93 and 94 since the tach signal comes from the ICM (look at figure 2 of 4). I know if you connect the tach to the same wire on the 94, you only get half the actual RPM. Is yours reading full RPM? (should be just under 1k at idle)
Yep mine is receiving full reading.
I think only the 94 2.2 halfs up the rpm since they have the b11 wire. There are two white wires coming from the DIS, we had to raise up the car to reach them. We got lucky and choose the correct one on the first try. The tach is very accurate and responsive.

ummmm my tac reads exactly 1 k at idle... i would like to idle at 800... but if i try adjusting the idle control screw, the computer fights me and brings it back to 1 grand... during the fighting process the car starts boggling and acts like it wants to stall.... but it sounds more like a v8 domestic...
i have a 94 2.2 and need to know if i can hook this tac up and how. thanks
do u remember which white wire you hooked to?
