I've read the how to on V6-Z24 but I want to know if anyone has actually done this. I have a chance to get a whole manual Z24 for cheap but the body is poopy. I always thought it was a waste of time and I should just start with a manual car. But I'm selling my manual fieros and ditching the boat. What I want to know is how hard this actually is. What sucks is I put in a really good auto trans when I bought the car that had 13,000 miles on it. If anyone has done this, how long did it take and did it appear to be well beyond simply replacing a trans? Thanks.

Lots of people have done it. I can count probably 10-12 offhand. I did somewhat of a custom swap (NVG behind 2.2) but it was still relatively simple. My swap took about 30 hours total, using air tools and a lift. Budget more time if you're working off a jack on your garage without air. If you can change your brakes and oil, you can swap from auto to manual. The new swap How To is very well written and easy to understand.
Yes its very easy.. i fyou have everything planned out and the donor car sitting there i dont see why it would take more than a day to do it. the hardest part will be wrestling the auto tranny out of the car.
id prolly set aside a weekend of work...its not hard to do..just time consuming.

Right. I had to run around finding parts, build custom brackets/mounts, and test fit it about 5 times before it went in the way I wanted it to. But, like I said, mine wasn't a direct swap.
Hmmm, not a direct swap? I have a 1990 Z24, so if I had a 88-94 Z24 5 speed would that need any custom brackets and such for the swap? I have another vehicle so even a week wouldn't bother me, I just don't like suprises. The revised instructions make it look so easy, and I see they have a GM Service manual as do I. I guess I'm just having a hard time justifying tearing apart my now excellent running car. Usually it's maintenance or repainr. And how much do you think this would cost? I'm banking on a $500 doner car then replace stuff like clutch, throw out bearing, crank main seal, etc. Whats a good total? This would be a cool spring project, i just need more prodding that it's worth it. Grrrrrr.
Yes its a direct swap.. james put a V6 tranny on a 4cylinder car though.
