Ok i need help. My car is FUBAR. I was driving home from work the other day and i pulled into a gas station and my motor is knocking badly. It is the 3.1 v6. I am just curious if anyone knows what might be the matter w/ it. It has 204,XXX miles on it. I don't really want to lose the car but don't really want to pull the motor to fix it. So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Theres a bunch of different problems that can cause a "knock". The only real way to diagnose the actual problem is to have some testing done (compression, etc). With that type of mileage, I would say its a bearing problem. Have you been regular with maintanence?

yep i'd say 204,XXX miles is the problem.
If its a really loud knock its probably one of the rod bearings.. if you have let the motor run low on oil before then this is the problem for sure. The main bearings usually only go bad if you rev the piss out of the motor all the time.

Oh yeah also forgot: you don't neccesarily have to pull the motor to change any of the bearings but it sucks laying on your back trying to do it.
