Good site here if you'd like to learn about your alternator, thought it would come in handy this winter when I didn't have anything else to do.

Here is a couple of YouTube sites for rebuilding a CS 144 alternator. Not exactly the same but good for watching before getting your feet wet.

Thinking about getting a couple of alternators and learning how to rebuild it myself next year. Got a new one w/lifetime warranty from Advance Auto and it lasted only 18 months. Was lucky enough to get a replacement but the next time I'll prolly blow out the warranty, 'cause Advance only only gives you one replacement, usually. Cheap Chinese/India/Mexico.....whatever crap LoL!!

Good info.... I might give it a shot on the spare unit I got from the parts car. Mine still works and is OE from 84 with 164,000 on it.

Old sunny has a reman from auto zone and had for actually many yrs now.I would have to check my catalog of receipts to see when I bought it.But keep in mind my cavalier stays in my garage yr round so the heat/cold do not affect it as much!

Yes old sunny needs a stretch. However I am holding off on the axle work till nov.Get her inspected bc I have a feeling the axle resto work will take some time to do.Plus that leaky shaft seals is a mess drips alot.Have the parts, just waiting.
