Beware! I bought that white 86 Z24 on ebay and pd $500 to ship to my house and it died less than a mile from my house. The paint is not in good shape, as described, and the half shafts need replaced...not cheap. He is merely trying to find a less informed sucker. I'd bet he didn't fix a damn thing. It is the same listing and mileage. He knows better than to drive it. I wish there was a way to warn ebay shoppers.
so wait. you bought a car, you didnt go look at, take to a mechanic, or even know anything about? sounds like a lot of it was your fault as well since you bought something sight unseen....
Well, sometimes a certain car pops up that you have been looking for and you just go for it. I purchased a car on ebay
once and called the seller before I bid and then won the car. Went 400 miles to get it and it was a piece of crap, so I didn't pay for it (just wasted my time, gas and tolls). At least Steve has warned the J body nuts out there and maybe it will keep the price down to a point where it will make sense to get it and fix the problems. To me the reserve looks too high for that.

OK, and if you say everthing is right and there are no issues with the car, that isn't fraud? Education, it helps cover your ass.
It takes a leap of faith to bid on a distant car.
I understand the dilemma. I bid on my hatch that was for a car 5 hours away. I asked a bunch of ? on the phone and got added photos but in the end a lot of trust and a $500 deposit was involved. It worked out for me in that is was 'as advertised' but the risk was there.
Thanks for the heads up.

so you PM about the coils is a joke too? you need help.
you still bought a car sight unseen. thats on you. nothing stopping you from going and checking it out in person first. or telling him you were coming to look at it first. that would change his thinking wouldnt it?
fact is, you paid for a car, wasnt what was advertised or expected, you never went to look at it first.
but on a serious note, i have an s10 for sale showroom condition, for $500 if you want...
Look, if you think it is acceptable to make fraudulent claims about an item and sell it to a buyer in an online auction, that just makes you a jerk. The fact that there are laws to protect consumers when specific claims about condition are made and are fraudulent in nature is a good thing. The fact that you don't understand them is a you problem.
You got scammed, I get it. But you could have avoided it easily by simply looking at the car...
Serious vince? I might have to check out said s10 if so....
Misrepresentation is misrepresentation. Given, the OP shouldve asked more questions or gone and looked at the car but the seller also shouldnt knowingly be misrepresenting an item. I think thats in the eBay terms of use.
A 25year old J-Body, how good did you think it would be?
It's always a mix of asking the right questions, honesty, and a bit of luck. The wild card being #2. My '86 Z hatch was bought sight unseen on Ebay, based on pics, more pics on request, and bunch of questions that were answered honestly. Turned out OK.
My hand was strengthened by the purchase being a $500 deposit, balance due on pickup.
I suppose if, upon driving 5 hours to pick it up and it was a dog, half a grand is not an insurmountable loss if I walked away and the seller refused to give the deposit back

It IS in the terms of service that a seller has to disclose the condition of the item for sale, and if it is not as described, the seller is obligated to return any money exchanged. It's part of the eBay Protection thing.

A former JBO member (KillerZ) got taken for $3k (or maybe it was $3500) on a MKII Turbo Supra..... picked it up off of eBay AFTER the auction ended. Was told the trans was slipping..... turns out the engine spun a couple bearings and was locked up solid, and the trans was toast. It's been sitting since, 5 years or so?
