Hey, I was wonderin...
From what I have found out so far, it is illegal to use one of these in newfoundland correct? But what I am wondering, is if it will even work here or not? Cause these things are something that our southern friends down in the United States are using all the time but that doesn't mean it will work here for sure or not?
Can anyone help me? It's not like I can go to the cops and ask them! <br>
im pretty sure it is illegal to have em n e where at all. i dont know of n e one that has one here(Mt.Pearl).Im sure it will work ,only way to find out is test it, lol. but i wouldnt get one n e was not much sense for me.
i cant punch hard enuf,i cant kick high enuf,i cant shoot straight enuf,i cant die dead enuf!
Yes you cannot have one in Canada.
It's illegal to have them here. But some places in the US it is legal to have them. They can set them right up on top of their dash in plain sight.
If you plan to get one... you will need to hide it very good... and if your not going to spend at least $500 on one then don't bother.
Also they will work here. Same stuff.
Well... I already have one ordered now. It's a Cobra 9700. I got it for $195 CA from cardomain. It hasn't got here yet so I havent gota chance to try it.... really looking forward to it tho I must say... hahaha
Well, I just recently installed my Cobra XRS 9700 but I still havent seen a cop while driving yet to know if it even works! Hopefully it will cause I would hate to be out 200 bucks
It tells me a K band alert when I drive by the grocery marts with automatic sliding door but the detection range for that was the @!#$s.... which I dont really care about as long as the police on is fine.
Anyway's.. I'll keep ya updated

One thing I'd like to know is what is the difference between having it on city or highway mode?

Less false alarms with X band in the city when the detector is in "City" mode.

just hope the cops aren't using there radar detector detectors, and yes I know here in Ontario they use those. Seen it on video.
they aren't illegal everywhere in canada, alberta they are legal, another province as well, just cant remember which, im thinking quebec. I know a few people with them here in the city, most dont use them unless they are on the highway, that way when it goes off they can unplug it and hide it on them just incase. Both rcmp and rnc have radar detector detectors
Hey, I saw an ad awhile ago in a performance mag with regards to like a "ghost" radar detector. Apparently every time that this radar detector detects that it is detected it automatically changes its signal or bandwidth. So when radar detector detectors detect the "ghost" it only pops up for a second and then its gone. It's programmed to continuosly change it's signal/bandwidth. Anyone heard of this particular model?
i got one im in NS...mine cant be detected its a new type...its also setup for the radars they use over seas...incase the cops switch to that newer type of radar...but i dont mind having it i dont hide it at all....all they can do is charge me...so what! big deal....im sure it saves me more money...cuz i can put the speed down when i detect them...its good on the highway...i love mine cuz i travel from cape breton to halifax all the time...and i like to set the cruse at about 130...it finds them like miles away...its good.
But if u get one make sure u get one that cant be detected by a radar detecter detecter.
I dont know if you guys know, but they do come stock from chevrolet on the new corvettes haha, hehe, yes they do LOL
You need those new POP2 detectors or else your not completely covered......
Man you better watch it. I had one here in Ontario, anEscort, and I picked up a signal so I unplugged it right away and slowed down. Next thing I know a cop is behind me pulling me over. He detected my detector with his RDD....they call it a Spectre 3. I had a court appearance with a maximum fine of $1000 and they took away my detector. Just be careful thats all. You should have bought the new BEL STI DRIVER. Its completely undetectable.
How did they know it was you that had it? Were you the only one around?
No, I was on a highway....but I guess they swivel their spectre around and when it is pointed at the person that has it it chirps louder. I personally just think he pulled me over because I was a young kid driving a lowered Z24 with an exhaust.....and just hoped it was me that had it.
to Johns statement. in the US, we have a radar detector that like you said, if a cop goes to get a reading on your speed, it messes him up. but he cant pull you over because he doesnt know what you have in your car. In some states, they have special guns that detect this because its highly illegal. but i know alot of my friends have the cobras and they work great in the US. and we dont get pulled over for having them. One kid had one in his truck without even knowing because he baught it used. Then he passed a cop and it started beeping, when we got home, we checked his engine bay out, and there was one in the grill. aha. just be sneaky, then you really wont get caught.
They are all detectable
I got nailed with one here in Ontario a few years back
Also dont believe the rumours, they can search your car for it, they will get a warrant to open your mail They know you have it and they will find it
I wasnt even speeding at the time mine was detected it was in the middle of the night and the cop came flying up behind me, so the detectors must be very good
They used to be legal in Nova Scotia my entire family is from there and many still live in Halifax They used to sell them at Radioshack there
They're legal in Saskatchewan. I've been stopped for a tail light being out and it was mounted right on my windsheild. cop never said a thing about it
Just because he didnt say anything doesnt mean they are legal.. Maybe he didnt know what it was. I think its something i can do without.
just so you know the rcmp have radar detector detectors aswell as all other provincial police
Just to comment on someones statement. I'm from Quebec, and I'm 95% sure they are illegal here...
They are legal in BC,AB and SK but illegal everywhere else in Canada. However tune your FM Radio to 88.5 or another clear frequncy and when you go past a cop car with a radar unit you'll hear a sharp " Chirp" if the unit is on. This i know works in Newfoundland in the RNC cars as the radar units are low end units compaired to the ones used on the mainland. The RCMP use high end systems, some of which can read your license plate.

Just got to watch for the radar detector detectors if they're using them yet. They're using them in NB, a friend of mine got caught with one. I would suggest having a way to quickly and easily cut power to it so you're less likely to get caught if they do have a radar detector detector.
