The Official Speedline Z PROGRESS THREAD

First off, let me post up some pictures going in to the year...

So in October 2008, the motor threw a lifter, destroying the exhaust cam, the cam tower, and bent a valve in the head...
--- The motor was covered under warranty, and they allowed me, a certified mechanic working for a dealership with Chevrolet in the auto-group, to honor the warranty, and paid me 16 Hrs at $45 an hour labor.
----Using this money, i got the new head P&P + gasket matched, and decked .20, and a .410 lift exhaust cam

--At the machine Shop

While installing, i decided to paint up all the pieces, and install RK Sport Motor mounts

So then i picked up a set of 2000+ Toyo Tails

Next i pulled the Dash out. the new motor mounts caused new cracks (the old ones that i repaired didn't come back until i started grinding it all down)

--Toyo Steering wheel, barely put on just so i could back the car out of the garage

While the car was sitting in the driveway, one night the newspaper delivery guy hit my car attempting to turn around in the driveway... heres the damage pics

Now this is my intended build throughout the year...

Digging the Sol...but I'm partial I really like the rims. Are you going to paint the Toyo's when you paint the rest of the car?

UPDATE: I'll hopefully have some dash pics up later on tonight. After fixing the dash last summer, the new Motor mounts shook new cracks in new places. In the process of trying to fix it, it broke in to like 4 pieces (the portion of the dash that when installed is adjacent to the windshield. Using Fooser (spelling?) 142, we were able to completely fix and thicken up the dash, and now we just have to reshape it.

I picked up a Fiberimages SS Style Carbon Fibre hood from Chris Fontana. Originally, i had planned to sand it with 320 and then 500, and then clear the @!#$ out of it, and then sand it back down with 320, prepping it for the kandy mid coat and final clear. This is for filling in the little pits in the carbon fibre that causes the clear to appear to fish eye. However, we noticed that its been cleared once, so we were just able to sand it and apply clear to only a couple sections to fill in the pits.

The fade on the rims wasn't salvageable. I couldn't find a powder coat shop that could do it. So they will be getting powdercoated Gloss black with a prismatic flake. My calipers and drums are going red now to offset the black wheels.

The dark body color and black theme just doesn't strike me. I don't know what it is, I like subtle, but it's on the edge of boring to me. Not that I don't admire the work.

I noticed bumpers/sides etc. all left on the car during paint?...masking the taillights and antenna mast? Eh, not cool to have those edges. A lot of effort to skip out on such easy prep. Sames goes for the bumpers, mirrors, etc. IMHO. Lighting and blur in pics leaves a lot up to the imagination, it's your car, but I'd feel bad if I didn't mention the above.

Let me know if you still want that emblem BTW.

yes on the emblem

but we ended up having to spray with fenders and bumper on... the car was in an accident before i owned it and i had a very hard time getting all the new pieces everything lined up right when i mocked it up.
