Mid East Shootout maybe?
Saturday, August 09, 2008 3:56 PM
We should have a shootout State vs State at next years bash. I think this might be fun. We can maybe get a car ready here in Ohio, and JBOM might be able to make up a car along with JBOK. So what do you guy think of having a buget build that we have a shootout about a year from now at the bash? It would kinda be sweet, and most of us have spare parts/cars we could use. It would all have to agree on a price and go from a shell up. I wouldn't mind tossin' the TRD Cav Fire project shell I'm about to scrap into a body that needs rear 1/4's on for a good body for Ohio. We can talk about what engines to use and what can and can't be done. Some of the companys could help sponser us with small parts or money to put there name on the car. What you think guys...

That was kinda the thought behind all of this about getting everyone together. For those that don't have money to help can always help turn a wrench and learn some stuff while doing it. There needs to be a low limit of money you can put into it, and we could see if the groups would do carwashes/events to raise the money so there is no out of pocket expences. We have a year to do it, and it gets the groups into more helping out the people and who knows maybe more...

Why do that when most of the people have spare LD9 stuff layin' around. I don't care, but I think all the motors need to be the same no matter what.

Could we define a class level?
slicks vs street tires
Do items laying around the garage count towards the budget or are they considered donated?
Would it have to stay FWD?
Would it have to be streetable/plateable?
How many "donated" parts could I use?

I have a 96 shell, and some fun parts from a dead project that I could weld in.....

Just a thought.....

All questions will be answered through censors so no plans are revealed.

If some people want to "donate" some parts and dyno time we can use my car!! lol

I think that the resale value is the price we would use on the price. If you wanted to ask the other teams what it would be we would take an avg of everyone's answer. Trust me I woudn't toss the Johny Mack kit on the car to win. I think we should call 5-speed or auto for all cars also.

we could do a budget build. i mean i have tons of eco stuff laying around, but we could also use someones car also, like say mine or gormans or even davids if he gets it all dialed in.

i know im eventually looking to go all out race car with my cav and the t67 turbo is only the beginning

^Then I got the TRD Cav Fire shell in this! It really is a shell with nothing in but extra parts.

Sounds like all sorts of fun.....

Anyone in the fort wayne area looking to try some experimental fabrication later in the year?
or know where I can get a front clip off of a 03-05 sunfire for cheap?

trey, which motor are we going to use for an ohio car then? eco or ld9

Re: Mid East Shootout maybe?

Well I think we all need to use the same engine and transmission in the cars. Cause putting up a 2200 up to an Eco or a LD9 is not fair. So if we get people on board Eco might be easier and cheaper to pick up at yards. LD9's are high as hell in all of the yards right now.

what all are we going to do as far as modding goes then and whats the limit and everything?

Where's the fun in telling people what to use......
I understand the concept of being fair, but wheres the engineering challenge of trying something different.
Limiting engine/trans choices pretty much limits you to the bolt-ons and mods that are commonplace.
Let's get imaginitive people.

My vote(which may mean very little) is do a complete outlaw classification.
Run what you brung for bragging rights. No rules, except for safety.(no removing the rear brakes for weight savings(yes I've seen it done))

If you can run an LD9 at 30psi and 18:1 compression with a diesel conversion, more power to you.
If you can put 300 hp of juice into a 2200, be my guest.
If there's a way to put a turbo off of a bulldozer on an ecotec and you can get it to work.....well, that would be hilarious, but try it anyways.
Any ideas for the 1.8's from the 80's?
Anybody thinking of using any of the V6 models?

I've got a shell, if all I wanted was what other people had, it would have been done by now. Just my $.02

Well I would rather people spend the money on there own cars instead of the drag car. Do you guys think of rasing the money would be a good idea too?

yeah. a fund raiser type event would be cool.

I really wouldnt see J-BOM building a car for this. All past ideas of a club car have never gone beyond being an idea. Also most people I know are on a tight budget. I know my build is going to be hard to pull off.

well if we want to make this happen first we have to figure out a few things

Ecotec, LD9, or 2200

street tires or slicks

turbo, supercharged, or N/A

drag car, show car, or a bit of both

budget

if i missed anything just add it in

but we should really consider getting this going because i think this could turn out to be real fun and it would make the bash a whole lot better too with the Mid East Shootout
