The $1000 Question
Friday, May 02, 2008 10:11 PM
Ok, so I've decided to ditch the idea of summer courses and without that expense, I've got about $1000 to spend. I'm undecided as to what I want to do with it. I originally purchased it for the gas mileage because I was driving a long distance to work. Now, I'm back in school and it's only a 14 mile commute. I'd kind of like to have something with a little more room, but I know the most economical decision is to keep the Cavy. It's an '02 2-door with about 106k. As far as condition goes, nothing needs done to it. It is a 2200/auto car, so I'm not sure how much performance can be squeezed out of it, but it'd be nice if it had a little more zip. As of now, the only "performance" enhancer is a drop-in K&N...

If you were in my shoes, would you:

A) Spend the $1000 on mods
-What mods?

<or>

B) Sell the car and combine the money do purchase a different car

I currently have the car up for sell, but I'm as you can tell, I'm undecided.

I agree with tabs, education is more important.

Go back to school.

A more accurate observation has never been typed. These should be the starting points before any serious performance modification. What's the point of making a serious performer if you can't control it's power?

I'm definitely staying in school, but taking the summer courses would only allow me to graduate one semester early. The reason I chose to take the summer off is because even if I would go, I would have to take the maximum hours allowed for the summer semester as well as the following two regular terms. I really don't want to overload myself and in doing so, I'm not sure I would be able to obtain both of the minors I want because some classes are only offered every other semester. It probably wouldn't be too bad if all of the classes I need weren't upper-division courses like Business Simulation, Strategic Management, etc.

I'm contemplating "D) Make an unusual purchase that I wouldn't otherwise have the opportunity to make".

I appreciate the suggestions.

well C was good... but go with B... even if just to get another cavalier, get one with an Ecotec or a Z24 (with the 2.4)... then you'll have that "zip" without doing any mods...

Hmm... not true! You have a degree and don't have a job right? Where I don't have a degree and I make a lot more... You know I got to bust your balls till you get one.

Well why do you want to get rid of the car in the first place. If you wanted to get more power then what you have maybe do an 2.4 swap or a Eco swap. If you get a good deal you can do it under 1000 since you are a 2000+ makes life easier if you want to do a swap. Adding a 1000 for what you sell the car for you would be lucky to maybe not get any more problems.

yeah but no one gives a hummer in the back seat of a hummer like you .

OP, i would take that grand and put into dropping a 3400 in it and you'll have power and good fuel economy. check out the guys in 3rd gen forums. there is also 2 in ohio joe and shoff. joe's car is similar to yours before he swapped. just my opinion.

I like the idea of saving it up. Put it in a money marker account in the bank that way it makes some money and if anything bad happens you have the extra cash.

The proper way of using the word seen. It is not I seen it that would be I saw it. He has seen the car is the right way to use the word. English class is Cool. By the way thats my sig
