Va is such ashats that they will write you a ticket. That dam state acts like it owns the world anymore.
In Virginia, you aren't allowed to have any aftermarket exhaust at all...they haven't picked on me
yet about my ride height....but I've gotten every other ticket you could imagine. LOL I work in Virginia so it's a daily struggle.
i heard that riding with the neons on are illegal everywhere lol. As with the exhaust laws lol. In va(i gotten so many tickets) they profile the cars here. you drive a neon, cavy, honda you will get pulled over if the cop wants to be a dick about it(most of them are). You can have a aftermarket exhaust but it can't be loud. You know exhaust must be in working order not smoking blah blah blah. Technically they are supposed to measure your exhuast noise witht his device. But this is the commonwealth so no matter what they will write you a ticket anyway. I mean how the hell do they know if your car didn't come with that kind of exhuast when you bought it anyway...THEY DON'T.... its just for them to be asses. I don't think they mess with out of state plates unless your driving to stupid or racing. ranting done
Yes Officer I completly understand that my car is to loud and I thank you for the compliment
It doesn't matter what state you're from. I have WV tags. If you're traveling through the
communistwealth, I mean Virginia, then you have to abide by
THEIR laws. It's one of the only states that does this. It's major bs. For example, if you have 35% tint on all your windows and you roll through VA, they can write you fo it because VA requires 50% tint on the front two glasses.
And according to the state trooper that got me for my exhaust, it's illegal for you to have ANYTHING other than a stock exhaust. I know people that have had stock SRT-4's pulled over because the cop could HEAR they're exhaust. Of course, they went to court and fought it and won, but damn, come on!!

It's been 50% on the front two and 35% on back glass and quarters for years now...I lived in Virginia for 20 years and still work there. I've got several tint tickets before...asshats. You got lucky, I guess. They were probably waiting to see you a second time. They pulled me over for headlight covers back in the day (2002 I think) and told me that they thought my tint was OK (but didn't check it w/the meter). VERY next week, I get pulled by the very same cop (state trooper mccall) and he writes me for my tint. I told him he had JUST said it was OK last week and he says he doesn't remember ever having seen my car before. Just so you know how outrageous this is, here is what my car looked like at that time:
How could you not remember pulling this car over?? LOL Oh, well...paid both tickets and moved on.....

Well, technically, I live in West Virginia now. But I'm on the border and I work in Tazewell which is about 20 minutes from Bluefield, 30 from Princeton, and a little under an hour to Beckley.
crystal- if you have WV tags, then VA can't ticket you for anything other than moving violations. do you expect a family from florida where your tint can be as dark as you want, to remove it to drive thru va? not a chance. they may ticket you , but its an invalid ticket.
for exhaust, take a look at va laws 46.2-1047 through 1049. nowhere in the law does it specifically say that you can't modify your exhaust "equipped with an exhaust system of a type installed as standard factory equipment, or comparable to that designed for use on the particular vehicle as standard factory equipment" is part of what it says. so its either stock or 'like stock'. if you ask me, my 2.25 inch exhaust is 'like stock' cause it follows the same exhaust path, its just bigger piping.
remember, you are innocent until proven guilty. in court, as the cop how he knows the exhaust is modified, and what kind of certification he has where he can make such a statement.
as far as neons go, i havent found the exact law code. i do remember reading something about green, yellow and purple lights are legal. BUT- you can't be on a public road with them on, and you must have a cover for them which you remove when you turn them on- the car does not count as a cover.

ok i dont know about va but in NC you can take my word on this........
you CAN have neons but they cant be blue or red..if they ARE blue or red you MAY get pulled depending on the cop...and they usually just tell you to take them off...if they DO right you ticket for some ass reason just take the ticket to traffic court and they will drop it..its not really that big a deal...its ok to have ANY color INSIDE the car but cant have red or blue outside...and you can only have white or amber turn lights...hope that helps...

What part of VA does everyone live in that gets pulled over for exhaust? I live in Va Beach and work in chesapeake and so far the cops haven't pulled me over! (knock on wood) I also don't drive like a crazy person either. I just drive normal and so far they have left me alone.

Virginia is the only state that I'm aware of that may ticket you, if they see fit, for anything illegal according to VA rules, no matter what state your from, what tags you have. As I said, VA writes me tickets for things that is illegal in VA, even though I have WV tags and it's legal in WV. I ALWAYS go to court and fight them and win; I'm just saying that they do it and get by with it because a lot of people DON'T miss work and go to court, they just pay the ticket. I grew up in Virginia and lived there for 20 years....and I know this as fact.
And yes, exhaust can be "comparable to that designed for use on the particular vehicle as standard factory equipment"....which is basically stock. I don't drive like an idiot, either....I got ticketed during a road check for my exhaust....he said, "I can hear your exhaust"...that was it, I was ticketed and went to court over it....judge told me I had to put a stock exhaust back on. And I'm from South West Virginia....
NC you cannot have blue neons
I'm not big I play big

I live in Staunton and have the RK dual exhaust with header and high flow cat. I have been right beside cops at stop lights and ridden beside them for a good little bit. They have never pulled me over because of exhaust and mine is pretty loud. Neons are illegal to have on when driving but not when parked. I dont know the EXACT laws but thats how it is around here.
Well, I'm not saying that I get puller over for my exhaust EVERYTIME I see a cop (thank GOD!)...it's just when the mood hits them.
i can agree with crystal on the laws in va it depends on who you talk to in richond.we have called, our state inspector has called ,and a state trooper have called richmond regaurding the laws on air ride suspenions aka air bags.three differant calls three differant answers all within an hours time.needless to to we actually found a state trooper to say it was ok to inspect and pass airride and shaved door handles in va providing that you have at least 2 points of entry, and you have an x amount of suspenion travle.of course that doesent mean you local law dog wont write you that ticket for altered suspenion or no door handles.as far as exhaust goes ive only heard cops really like those cheap a$$ bees in can sounding mufflers.i think we know what im talking about.
