HPTumers Michigan?? Anyone?
Tuesday, August 03, 2010 7:08 PM
I need my car to run again, anyone wanna do a tune?

I need to buy a new computer. Mine has the GM Flash, so I need to get rid of it.

Intake, M62, Intercooler, Header and Full Exhaust with a 3" ZZP Pulley and 45lb injectors is what I'm working with. Also an automatic transmission.

Anyone local wanna tune it up? Barely runs at all right now, too much fuel. Was too lean before and now too much with my new injectors, I need a proper tune.

J-BOM, I know someone has some tips or advice on who can help me get this done, I however don't have anyone's phone number anymore since I got a new phone.

Backwoods racing in. Midland can dyno tune it. I also know a guy in Bay City who can do it if you buy credits plus a fee

I believe AMS in west Chicago can dyno tune with hp tuners for under $400.

Which doesn't help a lot but it's a very good option.

Street tuning > dyno tuning > canned tune.

IMHO.

Why did you need to switch to the larger injectors? The 36# are what's in the kit if I recall (at least that's the stock lsj injector I used in the past). They should flow enough to handle the 3.0 pulley and other mods you have. The eco s/c reflash is actually a decent setup that most seem to like.

A few things to consider: If you were running out of fuel the most likely cause is the fuel pump. Jay found this out first hand when switching to the racetronix pump I had in my car.

If you want to switch to hp tuners I could probably help however I'll be honest it's not something I really like doing for others. The main reason is there are almost always other changes that someone wants later as no tune is ever perfect the first time. Also any changes they make the to the car usually requires an altered tune; which becomes a future obligation for me. Nothing personal just being honest there and it's usually why I suggest most having their own HP Tuners programmer.

The best way to go if you switched to a custom tune is to go back to the 1bar map sensor and even better would be to mount an IAT sensor in the manifold. I was unable to use the 2bar map as an iat sensor. However that sucks since you have to remove the intake, the cores and usually have a bung welded into it since there's not enough material to tap. Even with an HP tune I'd suggest the upgraded fuel pump. So it may be worthwhile to just try that first if lack of fuel was your original problem and reconsider if you want to try and tune it. To give an example after only changing the fuel pump in Jay's car we had to pull approx 25% of the fuel out of the tune. The stock pump simply can't keep up in fuel pressure so you have to open the injectors more to try and compensate.

Also to complete the tune you'd need a wide band installed with an analog 5v output to log with hp tuners, or at the very least an extra bung welded into the exhaust pre-cat (if existing) so one could be hooked up.

Let me know if you have any other questions or if you want to talk about it more, it might be easier to do on the phone and I can send you my number if you want.

Jon - I have no other plans on upgrades to my car. My performance is complete.

I have the GM prototype S/C kit on my car, so it has a IAT sensor installed in the Intake Manifold, also it uses the same MAP sensor that came with a 2.4 s/c kit. Same sensor JayVan had on his car. Same Part Number and all. The top on my S/C had the hole for the TMAP welded shut and polished over. The injectors I have are Green Tops I bought off someone here on the .org

The New injectors are GM Stage II injectors.

Maybe you can get with me and help me figure it out, It would really suck to not need these injectors as I just bought tham and since I installed them the car won't hardly run at all.

Where do you get a RaceTronix fuel pump? Idea on the cost?

My scanner would always tell me me car was "LEAN BANK 1" FUEL SYSTEM TOO LEAN" "MISFIRES IN MULTIPLE CYLINDERS" etc.

After 5 minutes of the new injectors, now reads "FUEL SYSTEM TOO RICH" I have not driven the car in months, only started it a few weeks ago after intsalling the new injectors.

My Header has a bung in the Bottom before the Cat. I used the stock o2 sensors in my exhaust system.

I really just want to get the car running correctly so I can focus on getting it looking good again.

I have cash to pay for whatever you can do to help me get it running. Frustrating not being able to drive it.

PM me your number please. Thanks in advance.

I'm seeing a couple issues off the bat here...

The eco reflash is designed to use the cobalt map sensor which encompasses an IAT sensor in it. The cobalt sensor is 2.5 bar, the 2.4 map sensor is 2bar so the resolution between the two are different and cause the computer to react differently/incorrectly. I remember the prototype kit on ebay, did it come with a computer? Is that what you are using or did you obtain the reflash from the dealer? You mentioned it's on top of the s/c however the hole on top of the s/c is for ambient IAT sensor on the cobalt. The cobalt MAP sensor should be on the top of the intake manifold around the 2nd runner closer to the passenger side of the vehicle.

When you refer to the green top injectors you had are they the Ford 42lb green tops or the LSJ stock injectors which also have a green top? If it's the first one, that's another problem as the reflash is programmed for the 36# injectors. If a computer came with the prototype kit I really have no idea if it's actually the reflash or a custom version of it for the parts that came with the setup.

Based on the codes you're throwing, that's probably just a general lean or rich code, from driving and the 02 sensor asking the computer to pull or add fuel, not at WOT. So at this point I'd forget about the racetronix pump. With your mods you really shouldn't need it yet unless the stock one goes bad. If you do need one they are around $250 if i recall.

I'll PM you my #, today is a good day to catch me since I"m home and I often work late.
