Florida People Answer a Question for me
Monday, May 21, 2007 11:14 AM
When I get a chance I will upload a picture but anways. I took a trip to Miami this past week, and I am wondering HOW THE HECK you guys keep you cars clean? I traveled on the florida turnpike from kissimmie to I think it was hwy 70 to 95 and that stretch of the florida turnpike was HORRIBLE. I swear I seen black in some places. ANd when I got to miami our silver corolla was BLACK. Mad props to you guys for keeping your cars clean, I think I would fainlly give up. Also are they that bad all year around? I was assuming it was due to the fact that at the stops on the turnpike had windshield cleaning stations on it.

sounds like it, and it is lovebug season right now. well, they seem to come out twice a year, for a couple weeks, then go away. cleam em off right away, they will destroy your paint if left too long.

YEAH THOSE!!!! I got them mostly off my car, got the bug body and the guts off... But they left a film or something on my car... You guys have any tips on getting that crap off??? Cause we drove down on monday, and we hit patchy rain and it for the most part got the bugs off. But the car sat in a shaded parking deck while we were on the cruise, then we drove back to orlando on friday, and cleaned the bugs off sunday... You don't think those stains would be permante? But I see why the call them lovebugs, cause EVERY one I seen was making "relations" Damn bugs

LOL!! Go Elf on finding a pic of the bottle, thats too cool Hey Carl, if you go easy with it, you can use a yellow Scotch Brite pad. I worked at a car wash for almost 3 yrs, and thats what we used. But be careful not to go all Hercules with it, or you'll have swirls that will need to be buffed out. Good luck.

Ya you have to get them off asap or they will get into the clear and @!#$ it up really bad. The guts have a acid in them which is bad for our clear coat =D they are a pain in the ass. And its funny because i work at a Toyota dealership and people buy new cars and don't know about how bad the bugs are and when they come back to get their oil changed its funny to see some of their reactions on how we wont repaint their car because it was their fault they didn't clean the bugs off.

Thanks tho.... they are just about the worst thing in fl to deal with besides the misquotes

the worst part is that "lovebugs" were created as an experiment for a way to control mosquitoes, they were supposed to eat them

thank you University of Florida! national championships or not....... boo you!

btw: go gators

extra coat of a good strong wax on the front surfaces helps too.

Try using one of those fabric softener dryer sheets like bounce or something. Wash your car and use them to wash where the bugs are, thats what I use and they work great.

haha its amazing at what ppl will believe. look it up on wikipedia and snopes and you will find that they were not created as an experiment and are *gasp* naturally occurring. its always good to have a little background info before you go and shoot ur mouth off with a shotgun

also a little trick to help avoid hitting a wall of these buggers on the interstate, tail a large suv or truck and use it as a shield. lol i followed this one suv last weekend going to cocoa beach for about 40 miles, i think he tried to shake me a couple times too haha!

Turtle Wax Polishing Compound helps also. Just make sure you wash and wax the car afterwards.

you need to get a bra that is best thing. I had to get one for my Cavy. That was the best solution.

I get to wash my car in a few minutes thanks to these @!#$s. I drove up from Ft. Myers to Tampa today, and ended up going though a few swarms of lovebugs. I swore it was raining for a bit... except the rain drops weren't exactly moving much after they hit the windshield.

Whenever they hit your car, try to take care of them as soon as possible. I try to keep a bottle of spray detailer and a microfiber cloth in the car. But sometimes I'm too lazy to get to them right away.

If you don't wash them off the car though, the acid in their bodies/blood can actually eat into your paint. Generally, you should be able to remove them with a good scrubbing cloth (I go with the microfiber scrubbing cloths) and some car wash soap mixed with warm water. If they still don't want to go away, you can try a clay-bar and/or something like Meguiar's Scratch X. Just make sure you wax after words.

Problem is that a Bra can actually rub away paint. The only "bra" I'd recommend is the clear bra, which is basically clear vinyl cover for the bumpers/hood/mirrors.
