F*ck You Bel-Air Direct
Tuesday, January 22, 2008 3:09 PM
Today I came home and seen that I had a message from Bel-Air Direct and that I had to call them. I called them back and I was told that my Insurance will be cancelled in 2 weeks because I have performance modifications. The mods that got me in this problem are 1)Cold Air Intake, 2)Dual Exhaust and 3)4 Point Harness. I thought Bel-Air Direct was a good company for mods.

What now? Nordic?

Do you tell them you have mods on the car?

If you did not, then they have every right to cancel.

body kit, rims, lowered, etc.... that is more than $1500.00 of customization.

That sucks to hear man. My insurance compnay knows about all my mods and they cover it all ... rims, tires, paint, engine mods, body kit, the works.

I use a broker, but my insurance is with The Dominion of Canada - try them out.

Yes, They knew about all of the mods. Bel-Air Direct usually also requires pictures of the car from a body shop of their choice within the first month of your insurance. I had those pictures taken in August.

Thanks for the suggestions guys

Maybe talk to a supervisor or something. I am with Bel air and have been for a long time and i have no problems. On a side note why do you have a harness in a stock car?

Maybe your broker is part of the issue? Any recent traffic violations?

Bel-Air just sells the policy, the insurance policy is provided by Nordic.

just talk to them and find out what exactly can be done to keep your policy and see why they want to get rid of it.

I was shopping for insurance last year. I found that NOBODY would write a policy for a modified car. People with existing policies seem able to get by, but good luck finding a new one.

Is the title in your name fully (no liens?) If so, maybe you can convince them to give you PDLP-only insurance.

Just an idea.

ING, Bel AIr Direct, Nordic

ALL different insurance company but all the same

ING is for drivers with a perfect star rating they do not take much else

Bel Air is online and there is no broker involved

Nordic is provincially funded by all the insurance companys but they cannot turn ANYONE or ANYTHING down as they are the last chance.

BUT essensitally they all are owned and operated by ING insurance under different names.

^^^ If you have an accident and don't declare them then you risk your insurance company declining your claim etc... as to them they insured a stock vehicle. Try Wawanesa, I switched there when my previous insurance company dropped me for the same reason.

I think its a public liability plan. The bare minimum to have your car legally insured. If you hit someone the insurance will only pay to have their car fixed, not yours.

Sounds like one of the facility insurers. That's all I could get for mine and they charge up the ass for it. You're lumped in with the drunk drivers and everyone else who can't get normal insurance.

As for telling them about the mods...

When you insure a used car, insurance companies require you to get an inspection and they get pictures of the car. If the mods are obvious, then you don't really have a choice in telling them, right?

How is Wawanesa price wise? There is a broker just down the road from me... I'm hoping to find something for less then $350 per month.....

I pay about $150/mth for my 2 vehicles (Ones a mini van). In winter, I drop to fire and theft and pay like $90/mth.

I'm 20 years old with a clean record living in Shelburne....It should get dropped quite a bit though when I turn 21.....

I pay $220 per month on my stock 2002 z24 for just PLPD....

Re: F*ck You Bel-Air Direct

mine dropped considerably when I hit 21, went from 250 to 185. but somehow went back up a couple of months after I had turned 21 when I bought the insurance. I'm prolly gunna either wait till I'm 25 or so before really trying to get full coverage on my sunfire again. and it's only really body mods to be honest.
