ok, 5 months after i got my car, i was a car and a half ahead of a civic when i "missed 2nd".. i just thought i screwed up until it happenned again a few days later and eventually i lost 2nd all together. i just thought it was b/c the car had 80k+ miles so i had it rebuilt.. new 2nd gear, syncros, and a shift fork (threw in a new oem clutch while it was apart)..1,800 bucks. ok, im good now.. wrong. after i felt the clutch had enuf 'break in' time i went to the track and on my 2nd run i broke the diff. on the starting line.. back to the tranny shop. new differential.. 1 year later (now) 2nd gear is going out again.. im probly jus gonna throw a junk yard tranny in for a few hundred and call it a day but i dont wanna have2 do this once a year.. is there any harder gears or after-market trannys out there?? i mean. if im having this much trouble with a mostly stock ld9, how fast am i gonna go thru trannys when i build it up?!?!?

umm...think maybe you're trying to shift too hard? diffs usually break from excessive weight on your wheels, or from using drag radials/slicks.
As far as frying synchros...sorry if this pisses you off, but that's going to be blamed on your driving. take an extra half second and make sure ya hit the gear well. I seen people run 400 hp on a stock trans without issue (outside of using slicks without some sort of LSD)
no offense taken.. i shift fast but not that fast.. it never grinds into gear n i dont power shift it.. and when the diff broke, it was cold @ the the track, i had jus done a descent burnout in the water box and the track was stickin more than usual.. alot of cars broke that nite

I get about 10K miles out of a Getrag. I ususly take out the second gear syncro. Then I get a 0 mile tranny and get another 10K out of it. I abuse mine and admit it.

I've never owned a getrag...only isuzus...I hate driving the getrags
Either you have just had bad luck or you are a litle too rough with it. I am not nice to mine and have not had any problems.

That explains why you broke the diff. Don't do burnouts with an open diff.
