PushRod Length

Have a 2000 2.2. Just wondering. If I shaved the head 60 thousandths and motor ran great. After a few races of getting hot and finally spun a bearing. Had to have the head cut another 20 thousandths to square it up. So now a total of 80 thousandths. With stock push rods, seems like they are to long and holding certain valves open and not running right and compression numbers are off.. Had some 96 pushrods laying around, tried those and seems to run fine now. Now I know the stock ones are 7.448. The new ones I put in are 7.406. Are these going to get maximum lift and duration on the valves? I guess they would be roughly 20 thousandths difference right or am I not doing all the math here?? So that would make up the difference and be my fix?

How could it change the duration? The push rod is still riding on a lifter that rides a cam.

Everything should be just fine.
