Spiking Oil Pressure Gauge Concern

I recently installed an Auto Meter Ultra Lite Series I Full Sweep Electric Oil Pressure gauge in my 04 LSS. At first I put the sending unit in the head, but decided to move it to the block due to the low and fluctuating readings. I now have the sending unit in the location that the factory sending unit came out of. I am getting accurate readings, but my gauge only goes to 100 psi and I am spiking it every time I drive. I am wondering if anyone has spiked there gauge and notice any damaging effects from it? I spoke with Corey at Auto Meter today and he said that the gauge calibration would not be affected, but spiking would cause the sending unit to go bad. I feel that placing the gauge anywhere but the block is pointless, so I really don't want to put it back in the head. I just want to know how long the sending unit will last spiking it constantly like this. Thanks.

I have my gauge located there as well, however there is some flaws in your logic.

The reason it is reading so high is because it is located before the oil filter, for a true oil pressure reading you need to tap into an oil passage after the filter, so that the loss of pressure from the bottom end bearings is accounted for.

That will give you your true oil pressure.

That being said, my gauge is mechanical so I have no comment in regards to the high pressures burning out your sending unit.

Ahh, I see. I guess I will tap it into on of the front ports then. Thanks.

eco can see 125psi of oil pressure.

Is that before or after the oil filter? Also, will a 90 degree elbow work under the intake in one of the galley plugs, and if so, will the elbow effect the readings?
