I need to get some new valve springs since my new (used) head's apart anyway and the mileage is higher.
Can anyone help me figure out what part number I'm looking for? Depending on what vehicle I select on NAPA's site (2000 Alero or 2000 Cavalier or 2002 Cavalier) I get different part numbers, lol.
SEP VS1644 or
SEP VS1642
or neither?

i take it ur just running secret cams?? if so man that saddens me.
its been 8 years but when i bought brand new GM LD9 springs they were like $80 for a set or something amazingly cheap iirc...
might wanna look into that. they should still be good in the system as the ten year cutoff is this year..

I make enough power as-is to reach and exceed the goals I have. I just want to get the car back running, and reliably. Believe it or not, I don't have money up the ass to buy everything imaginable.

Right, but
where and what
part number?

According to GMPartsDirect they're a bit more expensive than the NAPA ones, which is why I'm trying to find out what part number for ones I can get locally or wherever.

i dont understand what the problem is? stop trying to buy things online and go into an actual store if ur worried about it.
you can go (or call if you really cant make it) into local gm dealer ask for a set of valve springs for a 2000 olds alero with the VIN T 2.4 twin cam engine. at worst they will ask for the VIN number but this will ensure you getting the exact springs.
same goes with napa or any other auto parts outlet, all you gotta do is tell them what ur car is and they will get you the correct part.
if ur worried about it take a stock spring in and compare to the new spring.
this really isnt that difficult.

The problem is I don't know who the hell carries valve springs besides the main automotive shops. I've checked AutoZone, O'Reilly, Advance, and NAPA. NAPA has odd online results so I was asking if anyone else ever bought springs NOT directly from GM, so I could find what the correct part number is.

Obviously.... I did this. GM dealer wants $160 for the springs and takes 5 business days. I'm calling NAPA now.

Besides the fact that hardly anyone carries valve springs. I'm looking to see what options are available! WTF is wrong with that?

I just got an e-mail back from the machine shop. They can get the springs for $3.50 each.

meh just run HO springs they cheaper, stronger and worth the coin
adn I paid less for the HO ones then I did for my LD9 ones

Sure they are cheaper but by the time you buy Them, 2.3 retainers, 35 mm lifters, and get the towers bored out you are in for 3 times the cost easily. Plus the cost of the hex insert.
I'm currently working on a setup that will cost around $200 plus cost of cams, allow you to reuse your stock lifters, and support .430 lift. And even if you don't feel comfortable reusing lifters the 2.4 lifters cost considerably less. A less expensive but reliable setup will pave ways for more fun builds on the JBO. Think of all the people who settle for secret cams because they don't want to pay for the parts involved for an HO setup.
Anyways back on track....anymore info on the low cost stock springs?

That reminds me I still need some 35mm lifters.

Not to mention stronger springs induce more valve train losses. Not point in running them if you don't need them.
Paying someone to install parts and bragging about it being fast, is like watching someone bang your wife and being proud to raise their kids.

I agree with that, I just mean springs shouldn't hold a build back. No need to run em if you don't need em.
Soo... no one really has a aftermarket part number for LD9's valve springs... Sealed power doesnt even list them on there catalogue. Funny wierd crap.
why would they? its a ten year old not- loved engine.
talk to tim meehan on ebay (partzseller27) he can probably get you all the "mantapart" sport springs anybody would ever want. ive tested them, they ARE a bit stiffer than stock. bout right in the middle between stock and HO springs. iirc most came up 67-70# at 1.437.

Brad are you talking about the actual LO springs or are they LD9 springs?... Theres a dispute that the q4's were all the same springs, but they actually had different between the HO and LO. I think this guy is looking for a ld9 spring with 33mm lifters, ld9 retainers, and valves. Q4' springs need the special retainer for a ld9 valve plus 35mm lifters.
yes i know that. you were saying how nobody makes aftermarket LD9 springs and i gave you an example of how there in-fact, is. the "mantapart" springs are meant to be a mild upgrade on an LD9 and have the same basic shape. for him using a bit larger cams i recomend using these. ideally you would want AT LEAST what came on the head stock. if he runs LD9 springs its going to be a downgrade versus what the cams were intended to run with. at least for the exhaust cam anyway, im not aware of what the 95 head uses for springs...
i have yet to see proof that the LO springs and HO springs are different. if they are, great ive just never ran across it.
