So after looking around online I got an idea for a universal ram air system using an ordinary open-end cone filter.
The idea would be a metal plate that screws onto the end of the filter and you would be able to attach a pipe to it. This would make use of the center part of the filter.
(Making example pic on MS Paint now)

You don't need that plate to do this. YOu can use PVC pipe to connect to the end of this. I have been using this for years now on my car. It does work, because I have datalogged the IAT's with and without.

Problem is that air is going to go the least path of restriction and going through the center of the cone is more prohibitive than the outer side edge of the filter.
Unless the whole filter is used inside of this pipe then the addition of this piece is kind of mute.
And I can say from my years of seeing all kinds of 'innovation' like this that the aftermarket would've made something like this years ago.
It doesn't work with how you're proposing.
Just stick with a pipe going to the outside air with the filter on the end and you'll be much better in getting cooler outside air overall.
Good luck though.

Actually, Weapon R has something similar.
That's were I got the idea, but with Weapon R you need to get the entire system. And then every time you need to change your filter you need to special order and it's pprobly super expensive too. This plate would work on any old cone filter with a center cut out.

I think your not understanding it completely. This is not replacing the air that comes into the filter the normal/regular way. This is in addition, and if you are running one of these filters your still getting air in through this part of the filter.
What I did was run pvc up into it, and then down into the fender, then used dryer ducting to behind the front bumper to grab that cooler air.
I have datalogged when I was n/a and got arounda 10 degree drop in IAT's using this. I need to datalog it with the charger and this might force me to do so.
I will get pictures this weekend.

Why do that when you can buy the 10 dollar adapter at auto zone.

I agree on why have a company make soemthing special. This is something anyone can do at home.

This isnt true ram air... there is no positive pressure differential being generated. The higher pressure entering the intake through the top can escape through the sides. The little metal plate on the top wont do anything.
what can be done filterwise is to use a velocity stack at the base. The gains are minimal (about 1

but they do work. Some companys do this with their filters, others do not. Comptechs intake have them built in, The Jim Wolf Tech Pop Charger for the 350z is a stack with a filter on it. BPi also sell them

Who cares about the ram air part, but the cooler air, that is where it is at.

They have at discount ,Autozone, Pepboys,All for around 10 bucks. Plus they sell the flex tubing for twenty in a bunch of colors. The trick is how toget it mounted on filter and hood without having to strech flex hose with hood open . If anyone has pics I,d like to see the finished product.

Been running a blox velocity stack on my car for the last couple years, same stack made 2whp on my buddies all-motor Honda over a regular K&N cone air filter...and it only made 130whp..lol
2whp is 2whp...for $20 bone these are cheap and work good.
I finally got the pictures. Doing so has gotten me to work on this more. I never 100% finished it after my M45 install.
Filter
PVC connected to the filter
In the car
The PVC connects to metal dryer ducting that sit behind the mess in the bumper
I plan to finish this. It is actually out of the car now, doing some painting etc... I will then do some datalogging with and without.

Looks good and nice concept but that 90 degree hard bend is going to kill any functionality of smooth flowing air.
I'm curious to see what your datalogging is going to reveal.
Good luck with this.

Keep in mind I'm not after ram air affect, but cool air.
When I was n/a this setup yeilded me 10 degree cooler. Differences npow is IAT is in the charger, and not the intake. So the cooler air goes further and into the warm/hot charger, so not sure how it will show up.
