Has anyone modified a ld9 crank other than Brad and knife edging it?
I'm mostly interested in cross drilled rod oiling holes.
I know its kind of old school, is it still done today?
If there is a benefit I may have the shop do it when they balance the rotational assembly.
Thanks for the input.

Cross-Drilling would help evenly lubricate the bearings...problem is, the LD9 pump already has a hard enough time lubricating with the stock galleys. A strong pump that won't aerate the oil is key. I would consider a dry-sump or at least the 2.3L pump before (or at the same time as) doing a mod like this.
I have no signiture
I think a dry sump would have to be done if you wanted it cross drilled. A few people have opened up the oil galleries slightly, and lined them up better. They do not line up well in some blocks.

^^ yup, problem with cross drilling is you lose pressure. its cool if the pump can make up for it though....
i am not the founder of the gutted crank, in fact... not even close. some of these stock car boys here in iowa have been running them for years now. i am just a lucky guy that was given the machinist's phone number that does them, nothing more.
2.3 pump mod is being done. It's just going to be a fun daily driver so no need for dry sump, although that would be pretty cool.
I know your.not the first brad, just using you as an example as I don't know anyone else on jbo that has done it.
I had it done on my built motor in my talon.
Not looking for that kind of power from the cavalier though so its not going to happen.
Wouldn't the 2.3 pump swap provide sufficient pressure for the cross drilling?

well, gotta ask why do you need to cross drill? nobody that i know of has ever had issues with oiling after the 2.3 swap....
and there is a couple of ppl on here that have the crank modification from the same guy that did mine. one motor was recently for sale with one in it here in the classifieds, too.
tyler wichers just recently had a custom one made, completely different than ours by a machine shop in sioux falls, sd. looks similar but they left more meat on the throws.
It's.not that it NEEDS to be done, just something I was considering as they would do it cheap.
